I find the public groveling act by Newsweek very unsettling -- why don't they stand their ground, and simply cite the fact that these stories have been around for more than two years.
The fact that the earlier reports are from inmates (mostly Afghans, in fact) rather than the "unnamed government source" would seem no less inflammatory to Afghan Muslims.
