I think support for brutal regimes is WRONG, but I don't think most of the people oppressed by brutal regimes are planning and executing acts of terror against the United States. They are mostly just trying to not get killed, and to get enough food and water.

The Arab community - other than the Palestinians - is not in this situation. They have both financial resources and religious fanaticism that enable them to plot against the United States. And their primary motive is our support of Israel in the illegal occupation of Palestine. (Or at least that WAS the primary motive before Bush invaded Iraq and slaughered thousands of children with 'collateral damage'. Those photos did not enhance our image in the Islamic countries)

Saddam was accused of having WMD and was allegedly in violation of some UN resolutions for as long as 11 years. Israel definitely has WMD, and has been in violation of scores of UN resolutions for nearly 50 years.
