86. I admire Ali too. I was noting how images are used with dual purposes.
I actually collect propaganda publications to study the lies of history and I have a photo book from 1974 with quotes from antiquity by each picture.

The combination of the quotes and the photo produce a hidden message that is the opposite of the first impression.

'Race relations' is one of the issues manipulated. I had to show a savvy friend the photos and quotes for a reaction and then say "no, think again. If you were the corporate/Nazi/CIA freaking out over anti-capitalism, feminism, environmentalism, and peace-mongering, what message would you want to send?"

Then my friend looked at the photos and quote and gasped, "oh my gawd. You're right."

Every photo in the book was an effort to undue 'the sixties.'

It's called 'Love, Sunrise, and Elevated Apes' with photos by Life photographer Nina Leen. No credits are given for the juxtaposition of the quotes. Life, of course, was a tool of the CIA for decades since imagery is the medium for pre-literate propaganda. Like TV.

This book was a sequel to 'Women, Heroes, and a Frog.' You get the drift of the male-focused traditional female role suggested in the titles. The use of animal photos to grab the attention of young women was used to suggest that nature is combative, hungry, and scary. Certainly a threat to profits...
