Or the wife will go shopping when he says it is okay, but each shopping trip will be an occasion for suspicion, paranoia, jealousy, anger, and rage. This is a power/control issue, and often leads to domestic violence and/or death, merely because females are human and don't take readily to slavery any more than males do. The mere fact that domestic violence exists after thousands of years of social conditioning in patriarchal societies, attests to the fact that the human heart yearns to be free.

The subjugation of females is the reward males get in patriarchal societies for submitting to sujugation themselves by other males--if they survive, that is. Lately they've been coming home with radiation poisoning from depleted uranium weapons and have found sex to be unbearably painful and children to be stillborn or deformed. The reason patriarchy needs overpopulation is because it considers people to be expendable rather than precious. No pretense at being a "pro-life" culture can get past the inhumanity of warfare. The belief in a deity that condones collateral damage would be described by one of my friends at the senior center as, "thinking with the small head instead of the big head." Humanity requires that life be cultivated like a garden; patriarchy prefers the dog-eat-dog law of the jungle and calls it "civilization." Patriarchy is a system based on lies, and it uses violence to enforce those lies against all challengers, male or female. Patriarchy's biggest lie is that there are two kinds of people, male and female. The truth is that there is only one kind of person--the human kind, or humankind.
