It can be used in diesel engines and can be added to the fuel without modification to the engine. It is still too expensive to do such a thing. People in Britain add vegetable oil to their diesels sometimes and it is cost effective because there are no taxes. Of course the way I read about it is when the tax man catches them.

There is real benefit to adding vegetable oil to diesel engines as it cuts pollution dramatically. I have read of them doing it in Chile and they do it with diesel vehicles used by the government in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park where pollution is killing the trees.
