We got the same line about peace, stability, prosperity and justice when Saddam fell (April 2003), when Saddam was taken prisoner (December 2003), when "sovereignty" was passed to the Iraqi interim "government" (June 2004), and now this.

Very few Iraqis are going to vote. Too many live in areas where they couldn't vote if they wanted to vote. Too many feel they have no stake in the election and will boycott the polls. Too many will stay away from the polls because security cannot be assured for those who do vote. Too many think the votes have already been counted and Bush's puppets are going to win and then ask US forces to remain, because it is the only way they can hold power.

Even if Mr. Bush had a sincere desire to respect the wishes of the Iraqi people -- which I do not believe for a minute he does -- this is no way to hold a free and fair election.

The revolt against US colonial occupation, which appears to be about three revolts at once, will not be abated.
