Motion To Delay Fails, Gregoire Certified As Governor
Rossi Challenging The Election
OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A Republican motion to delay the certification of Democrat Christine Gregoire as Governor failed Tuesday, clearing the way for Gregoire to be sworn in on Wednesday. The motion failed with 65 in favor and 80 opposed. Gregoire will be officially sworn in and celebrate with her supporters at the inaugural ball at the Capital in Olympia on Wednesday.

In a statement she said she is honored to be Washington's new governor and thanks the Legislature for its vote of confidence and says she's looking forward to being sworn in.

Republican Dino Rossi, who won the original election, as well as the machine recount, has a court date on Friday in Wenatchee, Wash., to challenge the election. Tuesday morning about a thousand Rossi supporters rallied outside the Capitol, chanting "re-vote!" About 500 Democrats gathered in a counter-demonstration, calling Rossi a "sore-loser."
