46. Hale Boggs didn't believe
in the lone gunman any more than than he believed in the Easter Bunny. There was a period of time when many people in the federal government thought it was important to go along with the fiction. Keep in mind that the lone gunman depends entirely upon the "magic bullet theory" .... and that silly theory ONLY came late in the Warren Commission's "investigation" .... when there was definite proof that the first shot taken from at or about the book depository missed the limo's occupants and hit near the underpass. The commissioners denied that happened, until a photo of a fellow bloodied by a piece of concrete the bullet dislodged.

I've noted before in Tip O'Neill's wonderful book, "Man of the House," (see page 211) how two top Kennedy aides who were in the motorcade, Dave Powers and Kenny O'Donnell, both knew for certain that at least two shots came from the fence on the grassy knoll. In fact, they told the FBI investigators exactly that, but were pressured into lying to the Warren Commission "for the good of the country."

No one who looks closely at what happened in Dallas believes the fiction of the Warren Commission. Hale Boggs was a smart man, and by the time he died, he was fully aware of who Lee Harvey Oswald worked for. And he knew who killed the president.
