I'll take solid policy over character any day of the week, but many people don't look at it that way-- how do you think Bush got elected? Seemed like a nice, congenial guy who wasn't gonna get a blow job in the Oval office. Believe it or not, people actually choose candidates based on stupid shit like that.

Same reason the relatively conservative Bill Clinton is a hero amongst many liberals-- he beat the rap the Republicans tried to lay on him. Hillary? She's a strong woman so liberals like her.
