Of course, I'm teasing somewhat, but only somewhat. The 1980 election ushered in an era of vulgarity that will take lifetimes to assess: greed and selfishness aren't just a tolerable human trait now, they're the supreme virtues of the species. It's disgusting, it's destructive and it's reinforced by every breath of the society.
Civilization was the collective attempt to band together and keep ugliness at bay, but with libertarianism, objectivism and Republicanism, ugliness is god. It's good to take, just as it's bad to give unless you're seen doing it and lauded to the firmament.
As for taste, it's always been a rarity. Ostentation is the hobgoblin of little souls, and far too many souls are exceedingly small.
A nice, traditional home won't have others writhing in jealous agony, will it; and without envy pouring toward one from every source, how does one know he/she's really made it?
Ug, must have more.
