14. The death penalty is overused
It should be a once in a lifetime thing. The only guy who should have been executed in my lifetime is Ted Bundy. He escaped from prison and killed again and it seemed execution was the only thing that would stop him. Even the man who murdered a close family member was not a candidate for the DP in my opinion (both then and now, and I was 16 at the time). I would have felt doubly awful if the state had killed him in my name. As it was, he died of the complications of age in prison.

I think this verdict will likely be overturned on appeal. There were too many jury shenanigans for it to stand, and it seems the prosecution played fast and loose with a real dearth of forensic evidence.

In any case, if he is found guilty in the future after new evidence surfaces, he will still only qualify as an ordinary, garden variety murderer. They can be dealt with more efficiently and cheaply in prison with no possibility of parole.
