24. OK,
Just for the record, the University of Wisconsin hired a man named Kevin Reilly for that position, promoting him from within. Looking back on his days as governor (which constitute my entire life until 2002), I can say that he was not awful, except for education, which he enacted some crippling revenue caps that Doyle is afraid to even attempt to repeal (both houses of the Legislature are controlled by Republicans though, so he couldn't do that anyway.) The thing is, he seemed like a pretty nice guy outside of his policies, which is why people kept on voting for him.

Ironically, his brother Ed ran for governor as a Libertarian and got over 10% of the vote, which helped throw the election to Doyle. Mainly Ed got those votes based on name recognition as Tommy's brother- people were Republicans but people realized how awful Scott McCallum was, and voted for Ed as a protest vote.
