The name of the organization is a reference to the first Republican President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, who was born in a log cabin.

They invoke Lincoln's name, image and birth site ostensibly to emphasize the Republican party's history of fighting for liberty and equality. The log cabin reference may also have served as an reminder that there have been prominent homosexual Republicans in the past, perhaps including Lincoln, though the organization has never taken an official position on the sexuality of Abraham Lincoln.
