Pharma companies haven't been able to touch "regular" macular degeneration, just the less-common "wet" MD, which they can combat with cancer-fighting biologicals (anti-VEGFs) that stem the over-growth of new blood vessels. But this isn't the problem with "regular" AMD so those drugs are useless.
This is very exciting news - MD is a huge problem.
