The banks would not BE in the trouble they are in without LEVERAGE. LEVERAGE is what made a few percentage point drop in home values WIPE OUT the value a lot of these securities.

Do you honestly think that the losses the banks have suffered are linearly proportional to the drop in housing prices?

Do you REALLY THINK that the CDS issue is not intended to be addressed here, that we're buying the good stuff and the banks will keep the toxic waste?

If Republicans were pulling this shit, bailing out the bankers who created this mess with TAXPAYER MONEY that will saddle GENERATIONS of Americans with debt - everyone would be screaming bloody murder, but since it is a Democrat fucking us it's just ok.
