What has happened here is that the Royal Clinton Family has decided it can not be publicly offended, even if that means pulling rank and overruling the independence of commentators in the press. MSNBC has no big ones, that's clear.

Meanwhile, a sizable number of posters here think having an independent press is marvelous unless someone in the press says something they don't like.

The only speech that actually needs defending is speech we *don't* like.

Again, the reporter was boorish. But so are people who forget that the Constitution protects boorishness. Read any DU thread for evidence that boorish expression is the grass of politics.
