101. THE WAPO ARTICLE TITLE (and thus the thread title) ARE SO DAMN MISLEADING
Thank whatever good powers there are that Rose Siding excerpted the vitally important part for us to all see. We had better pay attention, because this is a turning point, or it will be if the Bush Administration succeeds in this monstrous blackmail of Blanco or any of the other governors.

The Bush Administration is trying to use the suffering, dying people of the South to blackmail a governor - you can bet they're also working secretly on the other affected governors - to turn over civilian power to the military. THIS IS MAJOR MAJOR MAJOR. NorthCom was created in 2002 with this as one of its intended jobs: administering domestic martial law if it was established. This is FACT. (By the way, the first head of NorthCom, Gen. Eberhard, was promoted from his previous job: head of NORAD when all interceptor flights were called off during the very long flights of the hijacked planes on 9/11.)

I wrote more in my previous post in this thread. I put it together in a long post a day ago, but it was "disappeared." Guess I sounded too angry or too sure that these delays and the blocks of civilian and foreign aid and the prevention of levee maintenance despite predictions of an emergency of of this kind might be DELIBERATE.

I'm hoping that all of you that still trust that all the days of delays and the rest are "only" incompetence are beginning to re-evaluate. This is the Bush Administration's toehold - as they see it - to get a legal precedent and beginning point for military control of civilians. They won't call it martial law, but that's what it is. They would then encourage Americans to distrust and fear each other, hyping and fabricating reports of class/racial violence to drive that fear to the point that they could get away with effectively suspending the Constitution. It would be step by step.

They are currently trying to blackmail at least one state governor into giving them that next crucial step toward a "constitutional dictatorship." John Dean warned us in 2002 that it was possible (http://archives.cnn.com/2002/LAW/06/columns/fl.dean.powers.0607/) and now they are using this national tragedy to advance their plans another step.
