4. US probing 'possible' new madcow case
WASHINGTON (AFP) — The US Department of Agriculture said it is investigating a "possible" new case of madcow disease in the United States.

Additional tests are being performed on the US-born and raised animal, John Clifford, the department's chief veterinarian, told reporters in a conference call.

If confirmed, the case would be the third case of a bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE)- stricken cow discovered in United States.
