55. They use "repression" as a strawman
among other things. Loftus is being dishonest when she attacks the concept of repression. The term for what everyone thinks of as repression is called dissociation. As a professor of psychology, Loftus has graduated students who've done their thesis on dissociation. The existence of Dissociative Identity Disorder, on the far end of the dissociative scale, has been illustrated with studies using FMRI (brain scans).

Loftus's studies of memory have nothing to do with trauma and how trauma is encoded in the brain, you cannot ethically study those processes in a laboratory. Responses to trauma involve processes of the more primitive part of the brain, they are not analogous to narrative, non-traumatic memory.

The FMSF was intentionally set up to end the exposure of sexual abuse that began in the 80's. On the original board were Martin Orne, former MKULTRA contractor, (geez, I wonder if he had another objective?) and the Wakefields who later had to resign due to the fact they were exposed as supporters of pedophilia.

Thank you twosparkles and mcscajun for speaking your truth. I am sorry for all who went through it.

This breaks my heart, also, I know men who are survivors and due to societal stigmas about therapy and vulnerability, they have avoided getting treatment. I hope that changes over time.
