20. AIG reportedly to delay 10-K, again

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- American International Group will again delay filing its 2004 financial results as auditors attempt to sort out accounting errors that are now expected to total more than $2.5 billion, well above the embattled insurer's previous estimates.

The accounting errors at AIG (AIG : news, chart, profile) , a Dow Jones Industrial Average component, may range between $2.5 billion and $2.8 billion, The Wall Street Journal said Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

That would be about $1 billion more than AIG's previous estimate. AIG also will push back its self-imposed Monday deadline for filing the annual report, the Journal said. See full Wall Street Journal Story

AIG said on March 30 that it expected to make its 10-K filing by April 30. Because that date falls on a Saturday, most analysts had expected the filing to happen on May 2.

But according to the Journal, AIG now hopes to file the report within the next month. Still, executives wouldn't commit to setting a new self-imposed deadline with the SEC.
