21. More snipes from US State Department confirm policy towards Venezuela
<clips>

In the latest sniping from the USA's State Department, Secretary of State Condolezza Rice calls Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias' denunciations of a plot against him orchestrated by the USA as "ridiculous."

Speaking to US Spanish-speaking TV channel Univision, Rice says the USA's only concern over Venezuela is that it be governed democratically.

* Rice starts a visit to Mexico today.

Analysts suggest that the purpose of the visit is to prepare a counter-offensive against a recent tendency on the continent labeled the "pink" movement involving Leftist, Argentina, Brazil, and Venezuela and Uruguay uniting to seek closer ties and economic unity.

With Mexican presidential elections looming close, the USA is anxious to prevent a new Mexican President from joining the "pinkos."

* US print media have labeled the Venezuelan President the USA's "bete noir," as he seeks to cement alliances outside the influence of the USA.
