Hinchey ties Rove to false Bush report

Hinchey, D-Hurley, said Monday that comments he made at a "Town Hall" forum in Ithaca Saturday were an "exposition of a theory" based on circumstantial evidence about published accounts critical of the president's Air National Guard service, or lack thereof.

Spokespersons for CBS News, which aired a report based on the phony documents, and the White House could not be reached for comment on Hinchey's theory, which he gave during a forum on Social Security in Ithaca. His remarks were tape-recorded and posted on the Internet.

During the forum, Hinchey blamed Karl Rove, President Bush's top political adviser, for concocting the plan to release phony documents to the media.

Hinchey said Friday that his opinions were his "beliefs" of what happened.
