52. Robertson denies Chavez assassination call
http://feeds.bignewsnetwork.com/?sid=876a9fb9db3fa532

Pat Robertson said Wednesday that reports he supports the assassination of the Venezuelan president were taken out of context, CNN reports.

The conservative religious broadcaster made the controversial remarks about President Hugo Chavez Monday on his program, The 700 Club.

On the show he said, "If he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think we really ought to go ahead and do it." He also said, "We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability."

Robertson said Wednesday he didn't say assassination, but admitted to using the phrase take him out.

He said, "take him out doesn't have to be killing him."

While Chavez dismissed Robertson's words, Venezuelan Vice President Jose Vicente Rangel strongly condemned them and called on President Bush to take some sort of legal action.
