If memory serves I think two studies have been done

In Wisconsin each Walmart costs about $3 Million a year in social services to the employees

California-about $5 Million a year.

Walmart employees (40% turn over each year) get paid so little they often qualify for social services from the state.

Tell THAT to a Walmart shopper (especially RWers) and watch their jaw drop open.
