1. I hope to embarass the OP by pointing out that not everyone is watching the same TV channel

3. Even if DUTV existed, not everyone would be on that channel while posting on the message board.

6. Correction: DUTV does exist, but apparently it has no connection with Democratic Underground.

8. What I hope for and what I expect aren't necessarily the same.
For example, suppose that I bought a lottery ticket ...

4. Generally, I hope that I will notice the author's name on other
threads, so that I may skip over them. I don't use DU's ignore feature, so I must rely on name recognition to avoid such threads in the future.

18. I notice that you were careful to begin with the word "generally."
Do you occasionally hope to notice the author's name on other threads, so that you won't miss an opportunity to post in those other threads?

20. No, not really. I use the word generally to describe my
usual habits, and to qualify my statement, since I sometimes do something other than that. Most of the time, I don't actually notice who the author of a thread's OP is until I'm in the thread. I don't really look at authors' names when I'm browsing on the Latest page. I post in threads that interest me, regardless of the author, so, I'm not really sure what you're asking. Perhaps you can expand a bit on your question, so I'll know what you're talking about.

without understanding is a error. However I am notorious for not realizing I don't understand before posting. Hey I am not perfect but my intentions are good.

13. "people really have a problem with questions being asked"
People, they're the worst. Yet, you are yourself a person. Why do you have a problem with questions being asked? Why do you hate this country?

14. i dont have a problem with questions. i welcome and enjoy the opportunity to clarify
though i dont feel the need to have to add some, a lot, many, a few.... when using the word "people" like again, so many on du demand we do. or, we must be saying ALL. but then a mere question, "are you alking about all people?" would clear tht up. leaving out assumptions which almost always, leads to mistakes.

27. It's often helpful to indicate what part of a message
or what aspect of the overall structure of a message seems to be the source of the difficulty. Diagnosis comes before treatment, and treatment comes before cure.

just because I don't understand something, doesn't mean it's someone elses fault.

26. Meanwhile, the author of the OP may be hoping that you
or someone else will explain why or point out where the Original Post is difficult to understand. For example, there might be two quite different interpretations of the Original Post, and you might not know which interpretation is intended, but the author of the OP might not have noticed that there's more than one possible interpretation.

22. Other: Passive agression. They disagree, nay, disapprove of the o.p. &
reply with snark and other form of personal attack or distraction from the topic (like, who are the nicknames; why do you capitalize surnames; why do you capitalize RANDOM words).

24. There's a similar idea expressed in this answer option:
I hope to express the idea that the Original Post is somehow unacceptable, and to do that without risking involvement in a debate that I might lose.

Perhaps, although true for some people, it's not something that anybody wants to vote for.
