President Obama requests nuclear review, sees risk in Japan (March 17, 2011)
His agency will carry out the U.S. review Obama requested. The commission will meet on Monday to begin discussions about it, a NRC spokesman said.
"Our nuclear power plants have undergone exhaustive study, and have been declared safe for any number of extreme contingencies," Obama said. "But when we see a crisis like the one in Japan, we have a responsibility to learn from this event, and to draw from those lessons to ensure the safety and security of our people."
I will wait to see what comes of this, though I am skeptical. I am certain that there should be decomissioning, revamping and rethinking. Time will tell, I guess.
5. Good Obama. It's about time you did this thing we "small people"
refer to as pulling your head out of your ass. Or at least in this case our of your corporate master's. You told us offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico was safe too. We all know how that turned out.
