"gays can serve openly in the military but kids can’t celebrate Christmas/pray in school"

New Mitt Romney 'fidelity' ad aims to lure social conservatives

Rick Perry’s latest ad - about Obama’s “war on religion” - is drawing notice for this line:

“…there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school.”

It’s Perry’s most pointed - and provocative - ad to date, though it’s not the first where he’s focused on religion. Other Perry ads have included the one when he accused President Obama of calling Americans “lazy,” and a recent one where he somewhat painfully tried to make fun of his “oops” moment (see “dead horse, beating”).

Mitt Romney has also released a new ad Wednesday called “Leader” (though based on its content, we think it should really be titled “Fidelity”), in which he states:

“I think people understand that I’m a man of steadiness and constancy.”

1. Let me explain it, Mittens...
...there is nothing wrong or immoral with being gay and there is nothing wrong or immoral with serving one's country. In fact, service to one's country, no matter what one's persuasion may be, is praise worthy.

However: There is quite a bit wrong and illegal with the violation of the First Amendment clause requiring separation of church and state.

Duh....:eyes:

13. Kids are very well allowed to pray and celebrate christmas in school.
Schools simply can't mandate that kids pray. Idiot republicans (I repeat myself, I know) think that's the same thing as saying kids can't pray in school.

2. Kids CAN openly pray in public school- and schools are closed on Christmas Day...
which I would say is about the biggest concession to the holiday there could be. Puh-lease.

9. There's an old (and true) saying that as long as there are final exams...
there will be prayer in schools.

3. Your subject title is misleading. It was Perry who made that remark.
Mitt is an asshat, too, but let's cut him some slack here.

4. Response ... Nothing stops a kid who didn't study hard enough from PRAYING for a passing grade ...
In fact ... I'm pretty sure that the only way Rick Perry made it though school.

10. In Perry's case, I'm sure more than a few hand/blow jobs were involved.
That guy couldn't pass the Play-Doh curriculum in an elementary school.

7. I often wonder what these crazy wingnuts would have to say if schools stopped during the day...
and all the students were required to pulled out the prayer rugs and perform Muslim prayers. I wonder how much they would want prayer in school then?

11. I love Jon Stewart's observation that Puritans fined people for saying "Merry Christmas"!
Religion was about being reverent.
Eat that, you "War on Christmas" buffoons!

12. My FSM these people are stupid.
There's something wrong when civil rights are actually guaranteed for all, but Christians aren't allowed to push their brand of woo on people in publicly-funded classes?

If they were capable of rational thought, they'd be embarrassed.
