According to ABC news, Bill Clinton is now a vegan!

Another sucker for vegan propaganda.

3. That's just it, pure vegan, is NOT "heart-healthy."
It's one thing to cut down on animal products, but those cutting them out completely belong to a cult.

28. Since you didn't make a case to persuade anyone, I'll just call it your opinion.
Many of us hold the opposite opinion, maybe not pure vegan and maybe he didn't go the pure route, either. Not everyone knows the meanding of vegan, but use the word for everyone.

Both of my parents died of heart disease and were on all kinds of meds by my age. The rest of the non vegan siblings are all on htn meds. I have a calcium score of 0 and on no meds at all and I am vegan.

24. Bill is the very first good advocate vegan diets have ever had
because he speaks of it as a diet not as a philosophy, and without all the 'your mother was a murderer and your culture is a holocaust' right to life style hyperbole that is usually served up along with the vegan lunch. He will do more to promote that way of eating than all of the wildly aggressive language in the world. I hope the movement takes a lesson.

31. Are you looking at articles from last year by chance?
At that time he was describing his diet as being mostly vegan, but with occasional fish. The recent articles I've seen all say that he's now totally vegan. "The former president now says he consumes no meat, no dairy, no eggs, almost no oil.
'I like the vegetables, the fruits, the beans, the stuff I eat now,' Clinton told Gupta."

I knew he changed parties, but that's old news. He became a Sexagenarian five years ago (and who didn't see that one coming?).

I don't know what a Vegan Sexagenarian is, but it doesn't sound good at all!1!!

Some say not to worry, just give him a few years--they wouldn't be surprised if he even switches affiliation again and becomes a Septuagenarian! (Some say it might even have something to do with his becoming a Vegan--as if that's even a real political party!).

Whichever party he joins, I hope he enjoys it in good health! :toast:

I do like some chicken and seafood occassionally. I don't see why people make such a big deal about other people's diets. I also don't understand why it's controversial or offensive to state that this country's dietary habits are not particularly healthy, and that this country consumes way too much meat and dairy in general, and red meat and cheese in particular...and not enough healthy vegetables (and potatoes don't count).

One thing to keep in mind - there's a greater knowledge of different ethnic recipes in this country than there was in the past. And when looking at different ethnic foods, you realize that meat and cheese doesn't necessarily have to be part of EVERY meal. There's a lot of tasty ways to prepare meals without animal products, while still maintaining adequete protein requirements. And with the US being more diverse than in the past, it's easier to get hold of various spices and condiments, ensuring that vegan and vegetarian meals need not be bland or un-appetizing.

Most food they ate were fruits and veggies collected by the women, supplemented by small game. The big feasts of large game were the stone-age equivalent of the big Sunday dinner.

74. I'd call him a vegetarian rather than a vegan
Vegetarian: a person who eats no animal-derived foods. (They've got lesser degrees of vegetarianism, such as lacto or lacto-ovo, where it's okay to eat the food if no animal died to make it.)

Vegan: a person who uses no animal products at all in any way, shape or form, including wearing animal-derived clothing. The real serious vegans go out of their way to advertise that they are--bumper stickers, t-shirts, blasting The Smiths' "Meat Is Murder" at stoplights and so on. (And the REALLY REALLY serious vegans break into the cooler at the Iowa State Fair and put anti-dairy signage on the butter cow.)

I SERIOUSLY can't see Bill Clinton in canvas shoes or pleather.
