Just stop a moment and imagine ......
A tropical disturbance has formed off the coast of Africa. Another one is right behind it.

The usual blocking high pressure system has formed over Bermuda. It appears to be stronger this year than normal.

If that tropical disturbance, or the one behind it, or the ones that will form behind them, follow the track they will naturally follow, they could easily find themselves over Haiti. And then into the Gulf.

All that floating oil will wind up ...... where? Imagine a storm surge with oil in the mix. Imagine dead barrier islands. Imagine the oil being entrained in the Loop Current. Imagine the oil heading back .... to Haiti, maybe. To Cuba and Florida for sure. To the Bahamas. Hatteras. The Hamptons. Lands End and Cornwall. Normandy?

Am I getting too far ahead of things?

3. Because you needed to post the worst case scenario, and
I needed to lighten it up. Doom and gloom suits you? I didn't think so.

4. So ignoring things is preferable?
You're smarter than that.

running around wondering about the worst case scenario. Why are you? You're smarter than that.

Yes, I should have ignored your thread in the spirit of contributing to a discussion board.

9. It's something I've thought about in passing...
I'm sort of wondering when my friends in England will begin to see the oil. Will I see it in southern Mexico when I go visit in October? What happens then?

10. It is typical of DU to see a disaster coming but at time it does not pan out
The earthquake under the Indian Ocean did not make a huge tsunami this time.

I remember one time a few years ago, there was a threat of a big storm off of Bangladesh, people had graphics of it and were all ready for the huge disaster when the storm petered out and went to sea.

15. Someone on th eradio was saying the darker water color (due to the oil) will make the water warmer
and that will, in turn, help to fuel tropical depressions and hurricanes.

But of course we ought not mention this until it actually happens.

16. If anyone wated the news tonight, they'd know this is not out of the realm of *very* possible.
Let's keep this "doom and gloom" in mind.
