It is NOT a leak.
This damn thing is a flood, a catastrophe of the first order, a horrifying flood of toxic oil.

The word "leak" is so damn convenient, and so damn wrong. There has to be another, much stronger, much better word.

Leak makes it sound like some little dribble down there, away from us. It is not.

Damn.

I don't know why anyone calls it a spill. We went way past 'spill' back when it started...a MONTH ago.

64. That's a good description for it.
I saw footage on TV, a different shot than I was used to. I had the sound turned down, so I actually thought it was that volcano in Iceland. It wasn't till I watched a few seconds then read the banner that came up that I realized it was footage from the oil pipe.

17. The so-called 'liberal media' sure protects corporate interests doesn't it?
I know there is no such thing as a 'liberal media'. It is a complete fabrication. The media are corporate owned and corporate driven. All they care about are money and profits. Any pretense of the media actually seeking to uncover the truth fell victim to their collective lusts for riches long ago. There is so much incestuous behavior between the media and and corporations they report on resembles an orgy of the rich & powerful more than anything else, and certainly not any attempt to gather facts or the truth.

Us heartier hearts must find a way to prevail over the hardened and hollowed ones for the sake and principle of preserving whatever quality may be left to a man made more finite destiny.

Be as well as any of us can. A black tide of tough times is part of our future, no matter how much it hurts or makes us mad or justified both are, like it or not. We need sentient, sensible, and sensitive beings like yourself to see us through. We all need the best of our collective strength to see if a chance can be made to present itself.

A "spill" refers to a finite quantity like when we don't cry over spilt milk. This is a SPEW, GUSHER, GEYSER and before it's over (particularly if BP remains "in charge") has the potential to become an ERUPTION. LET'S NUKE IT!!! :eyes:

I am so incensed, so heartbroken, so in disbelief...I cannot speak of it without a rise in blood pressure.

It is a geyser and they are putting that chemical dispersant poison in the water in god knows how many quantities...which only MAKES IT SINK TO THE BOTTOM. What else is sinking to the bottome? All the creatures great and small killed by this.

What a nightmare. It is in the loop current and expected to show up here in the Keys by next week.

Fucking criminals...fucking liars. I heard the fucking head of BP just went back to England to celebrate his birthday. Omg, I can't even stand the anger I am feeling.

55. Eco-disaster, definitely; but still a "leak" in terms of volume? (check my math!)
for example, the Mississippi River has an outflow of around 13,000 m^3/s, or about 80,000 oil barrels per second, which is around 7,000,000,000 oil barrels per day.

One estimate for the oil pipe rupture is 120,000,000 oil gallons thus far, or about 2,850,000 oil barrels.

One barrel of oil yields about 28 gallons of gasoline. That means about 1,900,000 gallons of gas potentially lost.

Call the national average of gas to be $3/gal, thus a loss of around $6 Million in gas revenue.

If the calculation is correct, $6 M is reasonably little to an oil company. They can afford the loss. Or any multiple thereof if the oil rupture volume is actually a multiple larger.

Conclusions:

1. a rise in gas prices at the pump seems unjustified.

2. an oil company wins and still profits. The Earth and is inhabitants still lose.

Check the latest stats.

Way WAY more.

This is a horror.

And no one is even thinking twice at letting them use the dispersants, more toxic than the oil.

This administration is dropping the ball.

Give the position five years or six years, but let's have no more of these "leaders" who tiptoe around when they should be showing some bullocks.

What is Obama so afraid of? That his little BP friends won't support his re-election?

60. It's the end of the world as we know it...
And I DON'T feel fine. I feel like cryin'...
This whole last month I've been so goddamned depressed; I just can't believe how stupid America is... that we could allow this sort of drilling to begin with, and then to react to the crisis with such a weak, tepid, pathetic response in the face of this mind-numbing horror... for weeks and weeks, it's like our government is in deep denial or something!

Where's the submarine with the robot arms? The one they just re-outfitted with a special nose that has a hole that, if you maneuver just so, fits right over that pipe and irises down like a sci-fi spaceship doorway and clamps onto it nice and tight, and the oil is received into a special chamber in the hull and then pumped to surface tankers... where? Where the fuck is that thing???

I think BP's upper management are criminally negligent. I think they should all be boiled in oil.

Where's Mexico on this? They must be REALLY pissed at us; they share the Gulf with us, not to mention Cuba... and it's rapidly becoming a really huge, really nasty, really disgusting toilet... and this shit will continue to spread and spread and spread, throughout the world...

GOOD NEWS, though: Maybe it's NOT the end of the world... dare I hope???

THE COSTNER SOLUTION!!!

President Evil Online has risen from the grave!
