Rosie off the View: Payback has Started?
Sometimes I feel like I'm trapped in The Untouchables only it's backwards... put one of his men in the hospital, he puts one of ours in the morgue.

This is why getting into it with the right wing is so dangerous. They're vindictive. If we get Imus kicked off the air, they'll retaliate by getting three or four of ours kicked off.

I don't even like Rosie, but I see what's happening.

1. Rosie only signed a 1 year contract with The View
in the first place. Then she would decide after 1 year whether or not she wanted to come back.

2. Not being renewed = being fired
It's like being "asked" to resign.

42. She wanted more money. They didn't offer it. I think that equates to firing.
If they wanted to keep her, they would have paid her within the range of what she was asking. I'm not saying that she had to get every penny she asked for, but negotiations are done based on the offeror's desire to retain the services of someone. Obviously they did not want to keep her or they would have paid her more.

Also, I am sure that her contract won't allow her to discuss the details of the negotiations so there is no way to know how big the gap was between what they offerered and what she asked for. But were that available, it would speak volumes about whether she just left or was fired.

29. Don't kid yourself: She was fired
Edited on Wed Apr-25-07 04:11 PM by lynyrd_skynyrd
The writing has been on the wall for months that Rosie was not going to last. This is not the first time Ms. Walters has lied about such things in order to save face. She attempted to do the same with Star Jones without success.

There is no doubt in my mind that Ms. O'Donnell was fired. Ms. Walters has not been a fan of hers for quite some time, despite the spike in ratings. You can even tell that Ms. Walters was not comfortable with Ms. O'Donnell's outspoken, take no prisoners style, from the way Ms. Walters constantly added little "disclaimers" every time Ms. O'Donnell said something even remotely controversial.

Her contract was for one year and Rosie was asking for more money than they were willing to pay her.

Considering how big an increase in viewers the show saw after Rosie started appearing, it's ludicrous to believe they didn't want her back.

But feel free to believe whatever you want.

And while you're at it, read post #21.

23. She said they wanted 3 yr new contract, she wanted only 1 year...
and other contract disagreements that they couldn't work out.

But she is leaving on good terms, she said, and will be back to guest host the show, as well as doing specials for the network.

It sounds legit to me. Unless they let her say this stuff so as not to hurt her reputation.

33. Why is it sooo impossible for people to believe that a liberal can leave without being fired?
There's enough outrage to go around without making the shit up without evidence, and with actual evidence to the contrary.

4. She was way too big a name to share billing with three others.
It showed from day one. I don't buy for a second that it had anything to do with her 9/11 opinions. My guess is she asked for more money, didn't get it, goodbye Rosie.

43. I agree, she didn't fit the format
The show is four women with the occasional doyen Walters chatting about the PTA and other light minded things. Rosie came in and turned it into her own show--"Rosie and Sidekicks". And Walters did not like being a sidekick on her own show.

I'd love to see this considering she's been a ratings juggernaut since hosting the show.

Besides the Imus angle is pretty dumb. The man was very much against Bush. The think the right were attracted the man so much because they basically share the same bigoted opinions.

36. bradblog did the same thing... made it sound like firing
the fact is, rosie can command an easy 15 mil to do a daytime show again, she got around 30 5 years ago. she probably wanted too much, and they wanted her for 3 years, she's tried for weeks I read... oh well... no reason besides Joy to watch the show anymore, so I won't see it much..

7. hardly
If I was her I would have demanded a lot more considering ratings skyrated and I had to put up with so much crap... ratings will drop when she goes, it's just a fact. in a way, they're glad she's gone, but also, it'll hit their pockets.

Of course nutjob rightwingers and regular small town folks will say they got rid of her... let him have their laughs, they NEED them this year (bad year for repubs)

13. She didn't want the daily grind - and long term contract. They wanted to lock her in.
So, because they love the ratings increase she brought, she's going to guest host (with very healthy compensation, I'm certain). That's hardly 'payback' or a firing ... that's ABC on their knees and Rosie saying 'enough!'

15. This was Rosie's decision, from what I understand.
She specified a one year contract so she would have options, and apparently she decided in order for her to come back for another year, they would have to cough up REALLY BIG BUCKS to keep her.

The show's ratings are up, due to Rosie. Advertisers want to advertise on the show. They just can't afford her.

I would bet Rosie has something else in the works. Working with Baba Wawa every day has to be "difficult". Just ask Kathy Griffin!

16. I don't feel the true story is out yet. Rosie hasn't updated her blog today.
I'm sure she will have much to say when she does.

Rosie has been targeted for some weeks now almost nonstop on certain cable nonsense channels. I'm certain that took a toll on the negotiations with ABC.

Any strong voice of truth must be silenced by the BushCabal. Everyone knows that but keeps tiptoeing around it.

17. Wish She Had Stayed
I wish Rosie had stayed at least for a little while longer so the Republicans would not be able to say they forced her to leave. Even though it seems to be her decision and she may have a show of her own soon it gives Republicans at least a little time to claim the made this happen. In addition, I contend the media will run with the Republican side of things or try to promote the Republican side as much as possible. I imagine the news reporters today and tomorrow will ask what role her latest comments and her previous comments had on her departure.

That Elizabeth acts like she is a prima donna and when she uses the bathroom it doesn't stink......I saw bits of it in passing. I am sure Rosie doesn't care what the republicans think.

She has a quiz show in the works and I am sure the ratings will overpower the View any day of the week.

Rosie's voice has been one of the few voices being heard in rebuttal to the lies from the corporate media and now it's over. That it was her decision doesn't ease any of the loss about this turn of events.

It sucks. Simple as that. :(

Why was Rosie O fired? Irish American gentiles that represent 10% of the USA are vastly under-represented in the US media. BTW I'm not Irish but I strongly believe in media representation based upon US demographics.....and that is not as it now exists.

39. The official story is that she was not forced out
but considering Bawa's history on this matter regarding Jones, it's probably good to be skeptical.

The right wingers are jumping for joy, and especially that buttmunch, Trump (yes, I know he hates Bush), but what are they gonna talk about for hours on their show now. When the Walter Reed story was discussed on real news stations, Fox was talking Rosie.

My own belief is she's had enough. She has had some mental issues, and I think the show and it's attendant critics are proving to be too much and wearing her down. But you know, you can only burn white hot for so long, then you burn out. She touched so many third-rail issues, in a format not used to it, from a fat lesbian, in a not always altogether tactful or even deep way, that something had to give. Too bad, she's the only reason I watched.

But she won't actually be leaving until June, and you better believe she's gonna go out with both barrels blazing.
