Shooters on my street
Edited on Sat Oct-24-09 12:58 AM by undergroundpanther
Tonight I heard a gunshot I was in my bathroom but it,sounded kinda close by. I went out on my porch my roomate asked if I heard it.I said I did than we heard it again .This time we both determined the direction of the shot.

I went to my front door, and as I opened it,to turn off my porch light and get ready to shut down for the night I heard another shot ,I saw where it came from, a grey car that was parked in the road that passes by my front window,by the bushes. That was it, I called the cops. Why this car is cruising my street, I dunno. But if this piece of shit continues to take pot shots at my house,I'll get some caltrops, for next time, toss 'em where they've been parking,So when the cops come, the shooters will still be there.
Normally I don't trust cops, but sometimes you have to use one kind of evil to get rid of another kind of evil.

Anyway my neighborhood is going to shit.Mom's little fantasy about how safe this area is has been blown apart. The drug dealer assholes that operate in other areas have decided to come around here. I say, Fuck them all. These assholes are wastes of skin.I'll be damned if I am going to be intimidated by a bunch of sociopathic prey animals who think it's ok to take potshots at the house..

Sometimes you gotta laugh, when things go to shit because life is hell. I swear humanity has got to stand up with each other against the assholes and abusers. If no one takes the risk or stands up, nothing changes it all goes to shit.I take that to heart.

3. Fuck that, Time to acquire armaments.
Also time to learn how to use them. The last thing you want in your house is a weapon that you have not learned to use.

7. I can throw knives
shoot a bow,and use a few other things along those lines. I am a bad shot with a gun. I don't like using guns, myself. My mom was held at gunpoint by my father and I body slammed my father so we could escape the house.

Another time a guy attempted to kidnap me or some shit he grabbed me from behind and out of my periphial vision I saw he had a gun aimed at me. So I bent over suddenly and I stabbed him with my bootknife a few times. He ran away left a blood trail.

Walking home from the inner harbor, several years ago an asshole put a gun with a silencer looking thing on it in my face. So I grabbed the gun out of his hand. This said jerk finding his own gun pointed at himself just freaked and ran.I turned the gun into the police station and reported the incident.

Because I have been shot at,and threatened by a gun before a few times I think guns trigger me, it sets off an emotional response in me because of my past that interferes with my aim perhaphs. So I'd rather use other means of defense if I can. And there are plenty of them.

5. Get low and take cover
where you were, the bathroom, is probably the safest, in the bathtub.

And yes, calling the cops was the right thing

My training today almost took over, as I took a friend to dinner. Fireworks... have I mentioned how much I hate the damn things?

9. My first wishful thought was bottle rockets
but bottle rockets whistle before they pop. And fireworks have a rhythm in how they go off. Guns sound different. And the intervals between shots is random.

I'm in my basement. Can't get any lower than that. It has been a shitty night. One of my roommates had an anxiety attack,he took his meds and he's asleep now. The other roommate is asleep because he's gotta work tomorrow early he slept through it all.My klonopin is useless tonight.

The cops did show up and patrol the street.

In a nearby complex a guy was beaten and threatened with a gun for "snitching" on a drug dealer asshole that was living in his cul de sac, having 12 year olds running drugs.
Drug dealer assholes don't intimidate me,they cannot do anything to me that I have not already faced before.I have had my neck broken, beaten up,raped, tortured etc.I'm not scared of death anymore and I have enough hate in my heart aimed at sociopaths to not give a shit what happens to these fuckers or this body that imprisons me.They will not find a market here..oh hell no.

8. I'm so sorry
Just out of curiosity have there been any foreclosures or vacated houses in your neighborhood. I've heard of neighborhoods that were fine a few years ago start to deteriorate due to a few houses being vacated and drug dealers moving into the vacated property.

12. Haven't a clue
And I KNOW they don't do all that shit for 1 suicidal person. I know because I have been taken to the ER by the cops,a grand total of 2,who were untrained in how to work with people in a psych crisis.
It was a really crappy experince. The fucking cops put cuffs on me escorted me to thier cars parked a short way down the road.I was not violent, threatening or anything.

Fuck. I just heard more shots. Dammit.I'm gonna see if it's the same car as before. If it is ,I'm calling 911 again.I'll let y'all know what's up ok.

15. I lived inner city for 17 years
Typical - beautiful old neighborhood that went to shit. Or almost went to shit. In Okla. City, it was referred to as "the combat zone." In between lovely old homes, were boarded up houses, crack houses, prostitues. I lived in a house built in 1917 by relatives. I dealt by having an alarm installed with motion detectors - turned it on when I went to bed, and any time I left. Had lots of outside lights and turned them on every night. Joined the neighborhood association and became active. Called the police frequently, it helped just to have the cop cars just drive by. Eventually, it actually got better. MUCH better.

I sympathize with you. Be alert. Lock car doors the minute you get in. Be aware at all times of what is going on around you, have eyes in the back of your head. Don't let the criminals win. Above all, stay safe. Good luck to you.

17. I hear gun shots just about every day, some days I hear hundreds of them
People shoot guns around here all the time, day and night, 7 days a week. I have a next-door neighbor who shoots just about every day, generally 20~100 shots at a time. From October until early spring armed men and women walk our roads although it is illegal in this state to shoot from or over a road.

I would guess you live in a city where gunshots are rare and scary. I live where they are common and only scary if you are a person who is easily frightened.

18. What an absurd comparison
How smug. There's no comparison between shots in rural areas and those in the city.

I've lived in a town of 500. And I lived in Oakland in the 80s. Gunfire wasn't common in the sticks, but it wasn't surprising. And we knew it likely wasn't pointed at anyone. In the city, no one's hunting. They're shooting at people.

Making light of reasonable anxiety over gunfire in the city is pretty fucking rude of you.

20. also the reason not to shoot at people in the country is they are more than likely gonna shoot back
and they may very well out gun you by factors...

21. I live in a suburb
So there is no reason legally to be firing a gun on this kind of street. There has been alot of drugs here, heroin, crack etc.
Most wildlife I see here are rabbits, birds and squirrels. No reason to be shooting off a handgun on a residential street when it is not pointed in the air on the forth of july or new years eve at midnight.

Yes I know about the country & guns, people there in the sticks if they see someone wandering they'll fire a gun into the air and ask why you are there, and who you are. So as soon as I tell them they yell out the window from a distance, why don't cha come over for some biscuits isn't your aunt feeding you? (a ongoing joke) And excuse to have me stop by..lol.

In the city guns go off between cops criminals or people sick of their neighborhoods being held hostage by criminals.

And I hate drug dealer scumbags. They have moved out of the city to deal their poison out here. Why Because there are lots of insecure young people who are bored to tears out here, no place to BE unless it is supervised or the mall where you have to BUY something just to BE there. To me the suburbs are a waste of land .Everything is too far away from everything else,so getting a car, rides places and playing status games become issues.Issues get created because suburban kids are latchkey kids,on their own often home is the last place they want to be..Can't go anywhere here it IS like a prison if you have no car and can't afford a car. So since I WALK to most places or wait two hours between buses I do NOT want assholes taking potshots ,or doing rival gang/dealer bull shit outside my house.

24. I had the same problem in my old neighborhood
Fortunately there was a law on the books here that held landlords responsible for renting out to drug dealers and other criminals. The folks in the neighborhood banded together, threatened these slumlords with this law and within a week the dueling crackhouses were gone.

You might check out if there is a similar sort of law in your city or state, but even if there isn't, get together with your neighbors. It is always good to confront this sort of problem as a group rather than individually.

26. My neck of the woods has a weird dynamic with stuff like that
I'm on one side of one of the main streets in my city. Really close to it; I can see it from my window and could probably put a frisbee onto it or something with a bit of luck. My neighborhood's mostly pleasant-boring suburbia, generally lower-middle class, lots of kids out and about all the time without anyone worrying about much other than their lawn gardens, etc. I don't feel at risk here, ever.

Immediately across that street it's gangs, drug dealers, and a level of gunplay that isn't much by US standards but is shockingly high by our own. I lived in a neighborhood there for six years and spent most of it in a lovely siege mentality; everyone had something thrown through their windows now and then, anyone who didn't look dangerous would get attacked now and then, etc. I was quite glad to get out of that hole, pretty much.

It's kind of fascinating in a really weird way. This side of that street I'd only worry about myself or the kids or something if one particularly dumbass set of neighbors let their rather imperfectly-raised puppy off its leash (again). If they were walking down this side of that street at ten at night I wouldn't raise too much of an eyebrow, provided they weren't some of the younger ones. If they crossed the street to anything other than the bus stop I'd be slightly concerned even if it was noon on a weekday.
