The wingnut who yelled "Heil Hitler" belongs to this church:
The Encounter Community Church
http://www.undone.org/tp40/default.asp?ID=174426

Pam Pilger is listed in the directory.
It is a Foursquare Church: 'Foursquare" is a Biblical term used of the tabernacle in the Book of Exodus, of the Temple of the Lord in Ezekiel 40:47, and of Heaven, as described in the book of the Revelation. The term "Foursquare Gospel" was given in the inspiration of revival to the denomination's founder, Aimee Semple McPherson, during an evangelistic campaign in Oakland, Calif., in 1922. It represents that which is equally balanced on all sides, established and enduring. Such confidence in the power of the Gospel is also expressed by the verse, Hebrews 13:8, displayed in Foursquare churches proclaiming, "Jesus Christ the Same, Yesterday and Today and Forever."

A core belief:
Divine Healing
We believe that divine healing is the power of Jesus Christ to heal the sick in answer to the prayer of faith; He, who does not change, is still willing and able to heal the body, as well as the soul and spirit in answer to faith (Mark 16: 17, 18; James 5:14-16).

Some insight into Pam Pilger and the workings of their ministry:
http://www.undone.org/tp40/Application.asp?app=Prayer&ID=174409

History:
In 1948, The Foursquare Church joined with the Assemblies of God, the Church of God, the Open Bible Standard Church, and the Pentecostal Holiness Church to form the "Pentecostal Fellowship of North America." The purpose of the PFNA was to promote inter-church Pentecostal fellowship and united action within North America. The PFNA was reorganized in 1994 to become the Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches of North America (PCCNA) to allow for greater inclusion and diversity. Since that time, the Foursquare Church continues to partner with the greater Body of Christ to reach our communities and world, echoing the words inscribed on the cornerstone of Angelus Temple dedicating its members to "Worldwide Inter-denominational Evangelism."

Sarah Palin attended the Wasilla Assembly of God.
This is part of the Pentecostal/Charismatic Churches of North America.
Here is more than you will ever want to know about her connections:

Other members of the Foursquare Church:
Senator John Ensign belongs to a Pentecostal denomination, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, that promotes a new health care paradigm in which both physical and psychological maladies can be cured through the casting out of demons. In the new approach, individuals can even heal themselves by exorcising their own demons, through a process that a 2003 Associated Press story characterized as "do it yourself exorcism".

From John Ensign's college introduction to the Promise Keepers movement, through the Senator's current membership in a Las Vegas church within the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel denomination, to his current residence in a house owned by Youth With a Mission, a parachurch evangelical organization founded in 1960 by Loren Cunningham -- who espouses a doctrine of Christian infiltration of key societal sectors, Senator Ensign has throughout his political career associated with charismatic Christian religious entities in the forefront of promoting a radical and new approach that is redefining Christian evangelism, which now includes a heavy emphasis on the exorcism of demons as a key to a healthy, productive, and moral life.

I quit wandering into the tangled morass of churches and beliefs. Suffice to say that it appears to be a special wingnut ball of wax. Promise Keepers, Joel's Army, Christian infiltration...........

Ms. Pilgrim apparently believes in devine healing if she follows Foursquare. No wonder they don't want health care reform. You can't reform Jeebus and Gawd.

I am going to take a bath and then drink a couple of beers. I need to be cleansed after this journey into the intertubes.

1. I had a co-worker who belonged to Foursquare.
He was the biggest letch I ever met! Hypocrisy is part of their creed.

5. A friend of Hubby was the same way: criticizing us for prenatal genetics counselling
because I was in my late 30's, then checking out my ass when I turned and walked away. In front of my husband, no less. He was Baptist, but big on Promise-breakers, uh, I mean Promise-keepers. Disgusting.

23. I grew up in an AG church which split because of a similar set of
circumstances. The cuckolded husband was the church's deacon. Funny but the church split into the original AG and a Foursquare, started by the deacon, who took half of the congregation (us included with him) after the minister came to blows with him in front of the altar. As a child, I did not have a whole lot of choice of where I went--parent decided. When I became 18, I walked out of that church and never returned except for an occasional funeral or wedding. Also remarkable was that in my 18 years within both churches, I saw only one minister who did not canned due to thievery from the coffers or adultery or going after the teenage girls. Only one. I saw others still who were alcoholics and just plain shiftless bullshitters too lazy to earn their living any other way. Frankly, after seeing other "priesthoods," I'm firmly of the belief that, as a class, the is group is a leach. And I unrepentently believe so.

29. That's so sad.
I can't say that my experience of clergy was any different, but my sibs and I went to Sunday School by ourselves and our parents came at Christmas and Easter when we were in pageants, etc. We never lived in any town more than 18 months and one year I changed schools three times. We always went to the closest church to our house. My parents didn't care which one, they had no interest in what went on in church, they only wanted some time alone. The point is that the type of behavior you describe above is common across ideologies, not just in Foursquare.

4. My cousin married a guy who is a longtime preacher-man at a Foursquare church -
At the time of their wedding, she was a junior in high school -and he was a divorced father of 3 (she wasn't pregnant). Over the years he has conducted some of the family funeral services.. lots of "rapture" talk.

8. Pentecostal fundamentalists are the worst of the worst
Truly a crazy bunch they are, practically modern day Puritans. Don't believe in mixing themselves with the "ungodly world", think that they - and they only - will be saved, pray for Jeebus to return and smite the ungodly, etc.

He will not be covered by her insurance as he apparently is now. He may very well be self-employed and getting insurance through her.

Edited on Thu Aug-20-09 06:28 AM by Heidi
If it works like that, why don't they swear off doctors entirely, instead of mixing "divine healing" and science and then giving all the credit to "the divine" when they're "healed"? :eyes:

25. Don't get me started about these circle jerks!
When I first moved to California, my aunt made me go to her foursquare church. The pastor always gave the same sermon about how Gawd hated Phil Donohue, Ted Kennedy, Maxine Waters and Jerry Brown. And they always had Mr. Preacher praying for God's man in the Whitehouse--Pruneface Reagan. The church bulletins had inserts from the Republican Party or other conservative groups. I hated every fucking second I had to sit in that torture chamber. I got my own place and have not set foot in a church since. Since then, when it's Sundays, I prefer sleeping in my bed instead of sleeping in a church pew with a sleazy phony preacher spitting out the latest Republican Party talking points.
