3. I have several relatives who have had colon cancer
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 07:55 PM by TayTay
including my Mom, who got it 7 years ago.

It was a frightening thing for her to go through, as I imagine it is for you as well. Please know that, if you do have this, there are several treatments. Colon cancer is treatable and you can resume a normal life. My Mom was 72 when this was diagnosed. She is now a hale and robust 80 year old.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, as will be the thoughts and prayers of many others at DU. But getting this detected is halfway to getting the treatments and your healing underway.

Think positively. I know the dread of hearing that awful cancer word. It chills the blood and makes it impossible to consider little else. But this form of cancer is treatable. I know, my Mom is living proof.

Be well and know that others are thinking of you.

8. Life is full of ironies
Be well. Ask a lot of questions. Review the treatments if this is indeed colon cancer. Choose what works for you. Surgery worked for my Mom. It meant changes in her life, but it did not mean the end of life. (Heck, sho got a new boyfriend a few years ago and has a robust, meaningful life to live yet.)

And remember, this is one of the most treatable forms of cancer, if caught early.

And again, you don't go through this alone. There are many people at DU alone who have gone through this either themselves or with friends or relatives. When you go into that room tomorrow, this invisible army is with you, promise.

6. We've been through this twice in my family.
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 07:58 PM by pnwmom
Have you had a colonoscopy before? If these cancers are caught in the early stages, the prognosis is very hopeful. My mother-in-law had hers removed surgically, and didn't even need radiation or chemotherapy. (This was 8 years ago, with no recurrence.) I'm praying for you that is a false alarm -- or caught early, like my m.i.l.'s.

10. The biopsy won't hurt for the same reason the colonoscopy doesn't hurt.
Remember the drugs they give you for the colonoscopy? Otherwise the test itself would be very uncomfortable. So now -- don't worry about pain. You won't even notice the biopsy being done.

If you had a colonoscopy just 2 years ago, from what I've been told by doctors, it would be extremely unusual for this to be an advanced cancer. BEST OF LUCK!

(And please let us know how this works out. PM me, if you want to. I care.)

31. Agree it would be very unusual for this to be some kind of advanced cancer
if you had a colonoscopy 2 years ago and are being followed.

Always get a Second Opinion...I had a cancerous colon polyp...8 years ago...so I've been through the deal.

Get another opinion...always. But, FIRST go through that colonoscopy you doctor recommends so you have some baseline.

(((Good Vibes)))to you!

I had similar problems last year everything came out ok. The colonscopy is less than a day no pain. The day before is a little... There is always the good news of not finding anything too:)

47. Yeah- we need a post rating system
Something that autodeletes the post if it goes above a certain number of unrecs, or below a certain ratio. We can mitigate the poutrage by putting those ratings in the hands of the mods or something, but it's quite clear we need a new system.

45. That's where my pain was
Edited on Thu Aug-06-09 10:17 AM by michreject
Turned out it was a Kidney stone. I ended up in the emergency room. They gave me some drugs to ease the pain. I was there for 6 hours. Upon leaving, I had a script for Lortab and told me to see my Dr. I went to see him and he gave me a script for Vicodin with a refill. I passed the stone three days later. I don't need the drugs now. (I never took them anyway). Made me dizzy.

Maybe they will find something minor wrong with you. Here's hoping.

46. They need to check you for gallbladder
that EXACTLY where you would feel it, plus back will tighten up HARD, serious spasms.. I thought I was gonna die, never felt pain like that, took the meatwagon for the first time in my life, didn't want to be driven..

gall bladder can fake docs out, ask them to scan it to be safe, might save you some trouble.. they took mine out, no problem, and I felt better than I had in FIVE Years.. i was bloated that whole time, doc was shoveling pain pills at me, LOTS, and now I'm pain free, lost 35 lbs, and NO MORE PILLS..

my dad had 12 feet of colon removed, I've had three colonolscopies, everyone in my immediate family had "tags" older sister got cancer in the lower part of colon, and she survived..

But the gall bladder is near the pancreas and can cause all kinds of grief, especially in WOMEN more so than men..

ask for it, and I'm with ya, it'll get better after they work you over a bit, way better :)

A doctor told me once that you can still get stones even if you don't have your gallbladder anymore. Shocked me. The stones can still form and get trapped. Just something to keep in mind. Good luck to you with your test. Hope you are feeling better soon.
