Rep. Broun Baselessly Speculates That The Child Who Died From Swine Flu In The U.S. Was An ‘Illegal Alien’

Yesterday, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) was on C-SPAN's Washington Journal and talked about the outbreak of the H1N1 virus. When discussing the first death in the United States from the disease, Broun used the tragedy to rail against "illegal aliens":

Q: What do you think happens next here? Or should happen?

BROUN: Of course, it’s sad to see a 23-month-old child die from this disease. We don’t have any specifics. I tried to find out this morning specifics about this child that has died -- whether it was someone who is from Mexico, possibly an illegal alien who has been brought into this country.

One big problem we have in this country is an open border. The border is like a sieve, and so these illegal aliens are coming across, and I think a lot of the health care facilities throughout Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California are going to be overwhelmed by cases coming out of Mexico -- Mexican citizens -- putting a further strain on those facilities. So, I don’t know if this child was a Mexican, or if it was an American child -- what the situation is -- but it was sad that this child died.

Watch it:

1. Uhh yuup. Sukin up our USofA hospital resources. Damn illegals.
:sarcasm: as if it's needed.

Crass bastards like this exploit the hateful 20% bubba's and don't give a rats ass that someone has died and that there are grieving parents and family.

No need to wonder why people are running away from the republic party these days.

2. I did not know that being an illegal alien would make a person catch the flu.
Must be some new scientific theory discovered by Republicans.

3. Geniuses I Tell You
Bachman, Boehner, Jindall, Cantor, and now Broun. You have to hand it to our brethren on the right, they are consistent. Never mind that it is consistently moronic or narrow minded, you have to give them points for staying in their niche. Makes you appreciate Arlen Specter and Olympia Snowe even more. Those damn moderates have no place in the rut (I meant niche) that is the New Republican Party anyway.

5. I'm betting he's technically correct
The child and his parents are Mexicans. It's illegal for British citizens to enter into the US (or in the case of a minor to be brought into the US) with a serious disease without a VISA. It's hard to imagine that it's legal for a Mexican to enter the US with a communicable disease.

9. They don't ask at the bridge
as long as the family had a visa or border-crossing card, they were here in the US legally. Sorry, haters.

12. The toddler probably contracted the flu in the US
Given the incubation period of a couple of days, and the fact that the toddler was in Houston for 3 days before coming down with the flu symptoms.

Toddler who died of swine flu visited Houston mall

A Mexico City toddler who became the first swine-flu death on U.S. soil spent a day with his family shopping at a huge indoor mall in Houston the day before he began to show symptoms.

Cameron County Judge Carlos Cascos, who spoke with the boy's aunt, said the family spent three nights in Houston just before he fell ill. After spending time in Houston, including at The Galleria mall, they drove the 350 miles back to Brownsville, where he was hospitalized on April 8.

When the hospital there could no longer care for the 23-month-old boy, he was taken to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston on April 14. The boy, who had underlying health problems, died Monday.

15. Found it. Actually it said he had "underlying health issues"
"Kathy Barton, a spokeswoman for the Houston Health and Human Services Department, said Wednesday that the child had traveled with family from Mexico to Brownsville in south Texas.

He had underlying health problems when he traveled to the Texas border town to visit relatives. They did not specify what underlying health issues the boy had before arriving in the U.S."

6. These idiots believe that everyone with brown skin is an illegal
and their constituents feed into that as well. I'm appalled by the blatant racist remarks I've heard lately from people in my area about this, saying the flu wouldn't have come to the US is the borders were secure.

Yesterday in our news it was report that a local hispanic man in his 20's had died. The cops all showed up wearing masks and rubber gloves. Typical Jax JSO. :spank:

7. LMAO.. So let me get this straight. It's our immigration policy that is causing
the spread of swine flu? What's next? Are they planning to wrap the country in Duct Tape and plastic?

Broun was a "house-call only" physician.

13. Yes because there are no Mexicans that are American Citizens
Idiots don't realize that Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona were all part of Mexico at sometime. There are Mexican-Americans that have roots in this country going back over 150 years.

16. I never cease to be amazed at the intelligence of viruses, or virii, or whatever.
How is it that they are smart enough to be able to tell who is from what country and host themselves only in people from countries other than the United States--and then on top of that, only those who then enter the US illegally? It's amazing.

I guess they do it the same way that the AIDS virus is smart enough to make sure it affects only men with Teh Gay, and leaves everyone else alone. Right?
