so what's the plan when this one gets stolen in november too...?
we thought it was in the bag in 200 and 2004- and it was...for THEM.
if mccain/palin/rove prevail in november, what are people's contingency plans...fight or flight or dejected resignation?

in an 'invasion of the body-snatchers' scenario, there's always the option of just joining the pod people...but in the case of a fundie-right takeover...well...let's just say that i don't have any room in my budget for a total frontal lobotomy. as i'm disabled, we can't really afford to flee, and there aren't too many countries that are willing to offer citizenship/safe haven to full-fledged burdens on society.

fight? been there done that:
(this is us/our banner from 6:36 into fahrenheit 9/11)

i don't think i have another 4 year worth of energy to fight anything left in me- especially when i've seen how very little it's been able to accomplish since jimmy carter was pillaged. just ask patco.

i just don't know how/if i'm going to be able to cope with more of the same for another 4 years...
but i'll have to try.

anyone else?
contingency plans?

3. I suspect that if the next one is stolen the country will come to a screeching halt
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 12:00 PM by ThomWV
I think there will be something like a national strike and of course there will be violence in the streets of major cities. This will go on until its fixed.

Twice in my lifetime this country came to a more or less complete stop, the few days following the Kennedy assassination and of course the several days following 9/11. It would happen something like that a third time, I'm pretty sure of that.

9. Agreed. We like to make fun of the average American
who is only interested in the next American Idol, but if this one is stolen with the polls unchanged in November, there will be hell to pay. I know a ton of "average Joe's" who have had enough.

I think people will, again, go on with their lives and believe that nothing was out of the ordinary. We here will be pissing, moaning, crying hysterically but the majority will ignore it.

4. Marching in the streets; work stoppages; letters to the editor
These are my suggestions, off the top of my head. The main "message" to make publicly is that we will not cooperate with illegal administrations that can only get elected by stealing elections. If "We The People" won't cooperate and won't work for "the man", they can't run the government.

8. I think something may happen the day of the election, like in Ohio, 2004 ...
... if that happens, we have to be able to respond, and get media attention that day.

Otherwise, all is lost.

If something funny happens the day of the election, let's say in Pennsylvania, we have to make noise, be heard and act.

Reports of disappearing votes cannot wait for the next day, we cannot allow election fraud to be "reviewed" by a panel of experts days, maybe weeks after the votes are in.

Of course, it would be great when our turnout meets expectations, but we cannot rely on that, just as we cannot rely on the voting machines to be accurate.

12. I thought I'd pick up and go in 2004, but obviously didn't. I'm less inclined
to leave now. The Rethug way is opposed by a minimum of 70% of the country. The neo-con-Rethug-crisis-capitalism party is opposed by nearly everyone with a brain.

I don't know about marches and demonstrations being effective. We're getting an idea of how that would be met by seeing the St. Paul police in action the last couple of days. A general strike might work to get attention.

I tend to think staying local and working on the county and state levels might be better. The federal gov't has the armed forces, the contractor/mercenaries, and the heavy weapons.

20. Protesters need to rethink their tactics.
Obviously, they are going to meet physical marches with physical tactics. No one seems to want to think outside of the box and meet them with surprise tactics. I have thought of mailing postcards to reps with one word and a picture like maybe of lemons, something they can't ignore before they throw it in the trash, but it would take everyone across the nation doing this so that sacks of lemon postcards are delivered to them to be effective. No one wants to think this way. They just want to follow the old ways of doing things that were invented by Ghandi. I think if Ghandi and Martin Luther King were alive today, they would do things differently because they would look to what would be the most effective with the least cost in lives and injury.

23. Yep. McSame->Palin will be the end of the Reich-publican Party
The only question is how many good people will be taken down with the cockroaches.

The majority are tired of the Reich, but their branding of the Democrats over the years will probably carry them through one last time. I fully expect a PV win for Obama larger than Gore's with an EC loss as the Reich games a few key states.

Palin's selection was the final nail in the coffin for the Reich, as it was simply more of the same that people have tired of, God Guns and Gays. People want solutions, not scapegoats.

19. I don't think I can live in a country . . .
. . . where the phrase "Sarah Palin, Leader of the Free World" is a possibility.

McCain CANNOT win. That's not allowed. And the only way he WILL win is if they steal it and we let them.

I think civil unrest WILL happen. I know of plenty who will be raging pissed should they steal this one. An immensely popular and serious candidate losing to a no-name brand mumble-thumbs codger and FundaCreationsim Barbie? HELLS no. I have a feeling there will be riots this time, all over. There'll be no inauguration. It's going to look like Brazil here.

And I can just see the McCain people:

"You stay away from mah house! I'm not sorrah! This is the way things ARE! No attacks sinse 9/11! Go move to France if yew don't lahk . . . AAAAIIIIEEE!!"

As Kennedy said, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."

Elections are our way of having a non-violent revolution every four years if we decide the assclowns in power need to be fired.

If they're going to cook the elections, the fuck it, let's have some civil unrest!

Voter Fraud: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. & Greg Palast Investigate

by moonwolf
One million Democrats attempting to vote in this year’s primaries found their names missing from voter rolls. WHERE THE HELL DID THEY GO?

Law professor Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and journalist Greg Palast are launching an investigation. We want to know: Where are these votes? Who swiped them? How? And how do we prevent it from happening in November?

Our investigation is non-partisan. It’s not about saving Democrats, but saving DEMOCRACY.

But we know who's playing games with the ballots.

FACT: On Super-Tuesday, the number of Democrats missing from voter rolls in New Mexico exceeded George Bush’s 2004 ‘victory’ total by 300%. No wonder McCain’s campaign says, New Mexico is “in play.” The question is who’s playing with it?

Join our effort. If you’ve got a tip, a document, a witness – CONTACT US.

Some Americans have taken a bullet to protect the ballot. All we’re asking is that you consider adding your name in bold on screen as a producer of the film that will open eyes and stop lies.

Let’s stop the attack on democracy NOW – so we can make this the final investigation of a stolen election.

The not-for-profit Investigative Fund will be seeking public support to pay the cost of phones, airfare, microphones (hidden, when needed), detective agency fees, camera crew, researchers and all the infrastructure of inquest, because it’s our plan to put out the information on the manipulation of the vote BEFORE November.

31. Get involved as a Poll Worker act.credoaction.com
http://act.credoaction.com/pollworkers/index.html

Pollworkers for Democracy is an effort to recruit, train, and network 5,000 citizen pollworkers for the November 4, 2008 election and beyond. Official pollworkers have a vital role in running fair, accountable elections in which all eligible voters are able to cast their ballots and have them counted.

Update: New Voter ID laws increase need for qualified pollworkers

On April 28th, the Supreme Court upheld Indiana's strict voter ID law, which requires all voters to present photo ID at the polls. This has opened the floodgates for other states to implement their own stringent laws. If voters don't present the correct ID, they will have to vote provisionally, which greatly increases the likelihood that their votes won't be counted at all. So who makes the decisions about which voters get to vote on Election Day and which have to vote provisionally? Pollworkers.

"The Los Angeles riots of 1992, also known as the Rodney King uprising or the Rodney King riots, were sparked on April 29, 1992 when a jury acquitted four police officers accused in the videotaped beating of black motorist Rodney King following a high-speed pursuit. Thousands of people in the Los Angeles area rioted over the six days following the verdict. Widespread looting, assault, arson, and murder occurred, and property damages totaled one billion dollars. Many of the crimes were gang-motivated or perpetrated. In all, 53 people died during the riots.<1>"
