Will DUers now refer to family values Republicans as "wife beaters"?
Instead of "closet cases"?

MN: Republican family values hypocrite Mark Olson - no shame
by: Pam Spaulding
Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 10:00:00 AM EDT

Look at the career aspirations of convicted GOP wife-beater Rep. Mark Olson -- he has quit the Minnesota House to http://www.startribune.com/politics/state/25781769.html?location_refer=State%20Politics">run for state senator. Olson called his conviction for domestic assault (for shoving his wife to the ground several times) a http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2008/02/18/olson/">"personal failure." He begged his House colleagues for forgiveness; no word on whether he apologized to his family.

Ken Avidor of Dump Mark Olson sounds disappointed that he'll have to keep blogging about the co-sponsor of a state marriage amendment in his post http://dumpmarkolson.blogspot.com/2008/07/rep-mark-olson-un-dumps-himself-and.html">"Rep. Mark Olson Un-Dumps Himself and Runs for Senate": Crap... and I thought I could put this blog in mothballs...

Olson, btw, was ordered to attend two counseling sessions after reports surfaced that he was abusive to his staff in 1997 (example: throwing a typewriter at a secretary); no charges were filed.

Look at his bleating against marriage equality -- from a man convicted of abusing his spouse.

So since DUers love to excuse gay jokes at the expense of Republican hypocrites, let the Republican wife-beater jokes begin. Fair enough, yes?

6. Verbal abuse is totally a part of domestic violence.
So yes, McCain using the language he did in reference to his wife can be defined as domestic violence.

5. Please look closer at my analogy.
Family values Repigs get understandably taken to task on here when they get exposed for being hypocritical closet cases.

And then the gay jokes proliferate throughout the site.

So why not re-frame these assholes as 'wife beaters', instead of closet cases? And then let's make jokes about domestic abuse?

7. Here's why the gay jokes abound
Repukes are SO "anti-gay", that when one of their number is revealed to be gay, they DESERVE to have all their homophobic, anti-gay slurs hurled back at them.

As far as wife-beaters go, it's pretty obvious that Repukes think that's the way things should be. It's like taunting a liberal by calling him "anti-conservative". What's funny about something that's common knowledge, right?

The funny part is when you discover somebody doing something they've been railing against for years. Like, if Dennis Kucinich got busted for illegally carrying a concealed weapon. :)

9. Where can I find the promotion of family values
Edited on Thu Jul-24-08 12:04 AM by JackBeck
in beating a spouse?

Are you saying it's an acceptable practice among Republicans to beat their wives, therefore, we shouldn't hold then up for scorn?

Or are you saying that it's an acceptable practice among Republicans who are closet cases to get caught, therefore, we should hold them up for ridicule?

How come it's acceptable to lash out against one type of Republican hypocrite, while letting the serial cheater or family abuser get off free without the jokes questioning their manhood or sexuality?

8. Dr. Hager, Republican family values supporter, likes to pay his wife for anal rape.
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20050530/mcgarvey

Up on the dais, several men seated behind Hager nodded solemnly in agreement. But out in the audience, Linda Carruth Davis--co-author with Hager of Stress and the Woman's Body, and, more saliently, his former wife of thirty-two years--was enraged. "It was the most disgusting thing I've ever heard," she recalled months later, through clenched teeth.

Rep. Olson's wife says she feared for her life
By Jim Adams, Star Tribune

Heidi Olson, 50, was the first witness to testify in the trial of Rep. Mark Olson, a Republican from Big Lake, after opening arguments Wednesday in Sherburne County District Court in Elk River. Mark Olson faces two misdemeanor domestic assault counts, which allege he pushed his wife down three times behind their Big Lake home on Nov. 12, causing her harm and fear.

14. Only if the person is truly a wife-beater.
Olson is a wife-beater. Lindsey Graham is not, since he is not even married, he is merely an asshole. I don't like to generalize about groups as a whole. I am all for calling them hypocrites though. :hi:
