So my boss drives up in his Hummer H3 today....
Edited on Wed May-21-08 01:07 PM by TwixVoy
So my repuke boss drives up to me in the parking lot this morning in his brand new Hummer H3, rolls down his window, and asks "Hey look what I just got. Like it?" He is one of those fools who trades in his new car every two years and finances an even newer one.

My first thought was "WTF are you asking me for? You have some serious self esteem issues". So I say to him in an uninterested voice "yea it looks ok".

Then the ass says to me "So you ever get embarassed driving around in that thing"? (I drive a 20 year old sedan) I was not in the mood for such BS this morning so I snapped back at him "Enjoy your 5 dollar gas and the years it's going to take you to pay that thing off. At least I have a positive net worth." Then I walked in to work.

I don't care if he tries to get me fired in the future. I am so sick of these idiot republicans who are so shallow and empty that this is the best way they know how to act in society. Complete idiots. "Look at me I just indebted my self to the banks another five years for my new tank. Praise me when I drive by".

1. Not only that, but they're using up all the gas.....
We were talking about that this morning - some ass in an SUV was hindering us from changing lanes, and we were talking about how those gas guzzlers have been burning through the gas the last 10 years and now we're all paying.

They should charge those bozos more per gallon.

2. The H3...
...has that new technology allowing it to run on fewer cylinders when it's not under stress.

Even so, the weight will be an issue and the SUV platform is geared for trails. That'll suck his wallet dry.

I looked at the H3 about two years ago. I don't normally buy American but they're nice.

We just parked our BMWs and covered them except for special occasions. My mother-in-law gave up her Corolla for health reasons and we're driving it for groceries and transport to the BART station.

45. I understand they're a pain in the ass to drive
and the few people I've seen in this town who are tacky enough to own them do NOT look like they're enjoying their driving experience.

I'm perfectly happy with my little Korean econocar. It's comfortable, roomy enough to haul weaving and spinning gear, and cheap to feed. It's even fun to drive.

6. Having...
...the vehicle paid for is a more important issue than the gas mileage.

When I was in college, I did a review for a independent newspaper on the Geo Prizm, which was a rebadged Corolla during that era. They were very nice, very substantial cars for the money. Our test was driving from Akron to Niagara Falls and back over a weekend. I loved it!

42. If you are looking for a used car,
the Prizm is the way to go. Those made in the early '90s get great gas mileage (mine got 50mpg on the highway during an extended road trip), and they cost a fraction of what a used Toyota Corolla of the same year will cost, and they are the same vehicle except for the radio.

43. Why?
A car is a depreciating asset the less of its value you own the less you lose as it depreciates...

I did a paper for school some years back showing the point at which a minivan was cheaper to lease than to buy was only if the purchased minivan is held for 7 or more years. The cost of maintenance and the like was way higher after the 4 year mark than it is on two 24 month leases.

The problem is the type of car not the financing around it..

36. I used to sell Chevys
The H2 is built on the same platform as the Chevy Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado, and its GMC counterparts.

The H3 is built on the same platform as the small Chevy Colorado pickup.

Fuel economy sucks in both models, even in the H3 with the I-5 engine.

27. Everything but the H1 are for posers.
The H2 and the H3 are just ugly bodies bolted onto Chevy truck frames. The vehicle itself is a poser, which makes anybody driving it a poser.

The H1 is legitimately a hard-core off-road vehicle. Most H1 drivers are still posers, but at least the truck itself is an honest hard-worker.

Their entire self-worth is based on owning stuff, and making other people jealous (they think).

If they weren't so obnoxious, I would feel sorry for them: It's such a sad, empty existence, and they are usually way over their heads in debt with nothing to show for it.

17. i heard TWO reports today before noon, about how people have negative equity in SUVs
b/c they have fallen dramatically in value. many dealerships aren't taking SUVs on trade -- most people can't afford to trade with the falling value, anyway. the last story i heard on NPR said that "motivated" buyers in the SUV market are getting big 'deals." so, he prolly bought that thing for a song.

he's an idiot and i bet the dealership was amazed when he graced their door. they are laughing all the way to the bank.

Last week I was stuck at a stoplight next to a car dealership - forget if it's Ford or Chevy but they have lots of new SUVs and jumbo pickups out front - 2007s and 2008s - and also lots of used ones. I wondered whether the tradeins are worth much given the glut of new and recently used ones.

I have a 1957 DKW, a 1969 Citroen DS, and a 1973 Saab 96. They look beautiful, they don't use a lot of gas, and they're extremely fun to drive, not like modern heavy cars that feel like you're sitting on the living room couch. 49. Heh, I've gone 3,700 miles on two H3 fill-ups.
My little Korean scooter gets a little better than 80mpg on average, and I calculate I've now burned 46 gallons of gas while racking up 3,700 miles. The H3 has a 23 gallon tank. I've gone about six times as far as one could go on two tanks of gas in an H3. Total cost of my vehicle was equivalent to about four months' worth of a 48-month H3 loan. No taxes or tags, either.

For awhile I was a little bummed about the extra emissions my vehicle produces, but then I realized that wasn't applying Enron math to the problem. With gas prices going up the way they are, every month there must be several H3s being permanently parked on the side of the road with "For Sale" signs in them. Their emissions drop to zero, which I'll take as a carbon credit. Now if I could just figure out how to steal their pensions, like Enron did.

59. I would be fired by now....
I would have said: 'Gee I had no idea you had such a small dick.' Then I would have proceeded to tell him the joke about the mouse and the elephant.

61. Would your boss just shit
if someone were to, say, key his lovely new POS on the driver's side?

Speaking PURELY hypothetically, of course. }(

Edited on Wed May-21-08 10:44 PM by texastoast
We should sip as little as we can.

And if you really don't care if you get fired, put one of these on your 20-year-old sedan. I think I'm going to put one on my 13-year-old sedan because Hummers are selling much cheaper nowadays and a bunch of folks in my red 'hood have bought them.

Then there is always the "How many lives per gallon does that thing get?"

69. Don't tell me...let me guess - he bought the school-bus yellow H3, didn't he?

Ask him if he plans on getting a personalized plate for that, but he may end up disappointed if he finds that "DOUCHEBAG" is unavailable!

70. People that flaunt that kind of consumption are literally caricatures of the right-wing -
look at these posts I copied and pasted from another board that I read earlier this morning!

"KingMarine: Feel free to slow down and save gas as long as your doing so from the far right lane. Don't pull your silly tricks on one lane roads and when you see someone merging into the highway have the decency to speed up or slow down.

Sorry but I love my HEMI engine and I could care less about gas. If it's such a problem advance your career so you can stop whining about money. The one good thing about higher gas prices is hopefully soon all the ignorant poor will be off the roadways. More open road for those of us who love great American cars and the wonder they bring!

"KingMarine: Very true Robert. I'd also like to comment on what's not mentioned but I always run into when speaking with people promoting better driving and fuel efficient cars.

The typical attack I see is the damn socialist style "saving fuel benefits humanity" attitude. I'm sorry to all those who think my driving raises prices for them but get a grip. Welcome to the land of the free, if you want socialism then move to Canada or Europe. Stop tying to tell me what to drive and how just because you claim in impacts you.

I also have some news for those types: When I watch video's of the so called "experts of hypermilen" they all look similar. Overweight white men: Please, why don't you also stop eating and lose weight so you don't impact my food prices as much.

See where your socialist fuel debate fails? Face the reality of the fact each and everyone one of you is using vast amounts of resources even while saving gas. Your punishing countless people in the third world with your selfishness. At least have the decency to not wag your self righteous stubby fingers at others who are just as wasteful as yourselves.

You KNOW this thug spends most of his day wasting his employers' time posting at Free Republic!

71. Be careful about getting snotty with your boss ...
... who is an absolute idiot. Why would you voluntarily buy a car like that in light of what's happening? Absolutely senseless.
