Rove: ‘I Fully Expect To Be Indicted By The End Of The Year’

Karl Rove, former senior aide to President Bush, spoke to a hostile crowd at the University of Iowa yesterday evening. Students and local citizens protested his appearance at the university and “staged a mock trial” for Rove inside the student union before the speech.

During the lecture, Rove lashed out at hostile questioners, telling one man his comment showed “a simple, stupid mind” and chastised what he said were “stupid statements” from the audience. Rove also said that former Amb. Joseph Wilson “lied” about his 2002 trip to Niger and accused an audience member of “perpetuating libel” on the U.S. military for asking about the real number of deaths in the Iraq war:

After Rove said most Western intelligence agencies agreed that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction prior to the war, Durham said, “When I had dinner with Joe Wilson, that’s not what he said.”

“With all do respect, Joe Wilson lied about his trip to Africa,” Rove responded, drawing more boos.

.........................

Responding to a question about CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson’s outing, Rove, seemingly joking, added:

I haven’t been indicted yet, but I fully expect to be by the end of the year.

Can't say the same about the likes of Rove and his ilk.

Man I wish I'd have been at this Rove event. I graduated from Iowa last year. Times like these make me miss UI even more...

Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 01:19 PM by calipendence
Damn proud to say I went to school there with that turnout! I'm hoping I helped spur it earlier on!

This lecture was originally supposed to happen in February, but got postponed due to the weather. I wonder if the Rove gang had hoped they could sneak in unnoticed then and get their 40k quickly without any protestors when it was originally "quickly" announced then. Perhaps there is a God who is working in "mysterious" ways to help Rove get a better prepared reception a month later when he gave Iowa City a blizzard then!

53. Actually, mine WOULD be printable, to wit:
"Since the University of Iowa obviously has enough discretionary income to pay $40,000 for the likes of a Karl Rove to speak, I must assume they have no need of my piddling contribution. So fuck off."

Okay, maybe they'd exise that last sentence.

Kudos to the students and townspeople who held his fat feet to the fire, though. With any luck, it'll be the beginning of a trend.

His and several others at the core of the CIA outing, the Iraq WMD deception, and related espionage crimes run out of the White House and OVP since 2001. Then, there's all those Obstruction of Justice cases stemming from the US Attorneys firings and e-mail destruction.

19. I really think a person would have to be a sociopath to do what he's done.
He's demonstrated absolutely no regard for right and wrong. He doesn't even seem to be mildly interested in facts, decency, or even the basic welfare of his own country. All he sees is his team, and literally nothing else matters. He's truly one of the best examples I've ever seen of humanity's disgusting side.

Sorry if that prediction is insensitive, but I really can't see Rove defending BushCo and himself in court with the real possibility of incarceration looming. The guy only knows how to operate when he's completely above the law, he has never known otherwise.

Rove's been spending waaaay too much time in GDP.

34. from a link found in the comments at thinkprogress:
"About a dozen of us rolled up to 126, unfurled some banners, and began speaking through a bullhorn.

"Karl Rove, we know you're in there," I said through the bullhorn. "We have the place surrounded. Come out with your hands up."

Students began pouring out of their apartments, many joined our picketline, we received alot of support, and two guys even brought us hot coffee. When Rove tried to sneak out the back door, we ran around to Dubuque Street and blocked his escape route out of the alley. Rove ran back inside and eventually walked out the front door and drove off.

Iowa City police were stationed in a squad car outside of 126 part of the time, but they never asked us to leave or to turn off the amplified noise."

He has way too many "insiders" for that to ever happen. I had hoped he would be indicted when Pelosi took over. Didn't happen. Then, I thought, they were waiting for Bush to leave office so that he had no chance of a pardoning him. Even if they eventually try to do that, Rove will be a no show.

I figure Karl and Co. will be heading out of the country for good around election time. He'll be sipping margaritas down in Paraguay from the front porch of his mansion, waiting for the rest of them to arrive in January...and laughing his wealthy ass off at us.
