DAMN!!! Now I KNOW the Dems will win in November!
My wife went by our mechanic last evening to drop off a payment (yeah, he'll work with you). We've been going to this same guy for 20 years. Now, I've always thought of this guy as a kind of "good ol' boy:" Speaks with a drawl, has had this own business for decades that started in Oklahoma as a family business selling tires, and smokes like a chimney. Well, out of the blue he asks my wife, "Who are you voting for?" My wife is somewhat startled as she doesn't want to mix politics with business, so she offers a non-committal answer of "Don't know will have to wait and see?" Then he asks "How about your husband?" She gets a little braver (she knows I have a "Kerry/Edwards2004" sticker on my car that this guy has seen before) and says, "Well, at first he was for Kucinich, then Edwards, but doesn't know now." The mechanic says, "Yeah, I was for Edwards until he dropped out. Now I'm going with _______!"* My wife just about fainted! I figured this guy to be a-political at best, if not Repub. He goes on and says, "George Bush really fouled things up!"

He also has a son in the Marines, so I suspect Iraq weighs heavily on his mind.
________
*I elected not to name the Democratic candidate, but it's one of the two frontrunners. This thread is not intended to heat up emotions, but rather to offer yet another indicator that the Dems are going to win big in November!

7. I'm afraid I don't understand your point...
It was a story about how well the Dems are doing--not about any frontrunner.

I had originally posted this thread in GD-P, but realized it wasn't about a candidate as much as it was about the general zeitgeist of this election season.

15. Sadly necessary. There are no bigger DU hate figures than Obama and Hillary.

Compared with them, Bush and McCain get relatively little criticism directed at them.

GD-P scares the hell out of me. I am increasingly doubting that DU will unite meaningfully when the primaries are over.

16. rest assured
DU will be after McCain with both barrels blasting once our nominee is chosen.

the big question is, will the regular voters who are all worked up over their chosen Dem frontrunner turn out to vote dem if the other candidate is chosen.

5. Yeah, I know I was painting with a broad brush.
But we never discussed politics and I wasn't about to start. Don't want to take a chance on irritating the guy who works on my car!

8. It's happening everywhere
I spoke to a family member and she's voting democratic for the first time in her life. This is the same woman who could not speak Kerry's name w/o a snarl. I was so shocked I didn't say anything and that's very unusual for me. She had to ask if I was still on the phone.

11. I've heard this same story over and over again...
from many of our locals (we live in a rural area between two
huge metropolis' on the east coast).

And the name these former-red-staters were committed to?

John Edwards.

I hear that over and over: "I was for Edwards, but now.."

We missed a great opportunity, being washed away
by the obligatory 'history' wave.

12. Talking with the republicans at work yesterday, and they hate all
their candidates. One guy said he's not even going to bother to vote this year.

14. I love hearing stories like this.

They got what they wished for for the past eight years and now they are so disillusioned.

The rethuglican party is going the way of the dinosaur and rightfully so.
