President George W. Bush donned a cowboy hat and sang an early goodbye to Washington on Saturday night with a performance that lampooned White House journalists and Vice President Dick Cheney among others.

Bush surprised cabinet secretaries, diplomatic officials and journalists at the annual Gridiron dinner by taking the stage and giving the first public singing performance of his eight-year presidency, which ends in January 2009.

To the tune of country song "Green Green Grass of Home," Bush sang of longing for his ranch in Crawford, Texas and his dog Barney.

"And there to meet me is my mama and my papa, down the lane I look and here comes Barney, heart of gold and breath like honey; it's good to touch the brown brown grass of home."

Bush, singing only slightly off key, then turned to some of the long-term members of his team including Cheney and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"For there's Condi and Dick, my old compadre, talking to me about some oil rich Saudi, but soon I'll touch the brown brown grass of home."

"That old White house is behind me, I am once again carefree, don't have to worry 'bout a crisis in Pyongyang. Down the lane I look, Dick Cheney is strolling with documents he'd been withholding, it's good to touch the brown brown grass of home."

Bush told the audience, which erupted in applause and gave him a standing ovation, that they had witnessed "the first and final performance of George Bush and the Busharoos."

The Gridiron Club holds an annual dinner at which journalists put on songs and skits lampooning Democrats and Republicans alike. (less)

6. Everything Is A Big Joke To Super Clown
On his watch people died, people drowned, people loss their jobs, their homes. Our country has lost the respect of much of the world. Yet this fool tries to sing his last lament like a cheerleader(he was) cheering on the losing team.

10. no doubt the most socially retarded pResident ever
he has no taste, tact, or the slightest grasp on humor or social grace. Just like the idiot unemployed alcoholic relative at your family events that embarrasses everyone and makes them uncomfortable with his pitiful attempt at fitting in, be it an offensive song, tap dancing, slurred speeches, or groping the hostess on the shoulders. Someone call him a cab already and send him home. He's ruining everyone's good time.

20. What a F#c%, I couldn't listen to even half of it.
I couldn't listen to even half of it.
Oh yeah, it's all a big joke. Ha Ha. What an A$$. "Condi and Dick, his compadre, talking to him about a rich Saudi..." Is the Rich Saudi Osama Bin Lauden that he let go? He is a war criminal that should be locked up for the rest of his life, and his millions should be given to the Iraqis, with an apology from all the Republicans and Democrats that ever supported this lieing murderer.

I saw something in the St. Louis Post Dispatch letters to the Editor, on 3/10/08, titled, A Great President, the author writing rhetorically, "..Mr. Bush isn't a great president to those taxpayers who didn't want their fair share of a cut..." I was thinking are you kidding, with Federal, State, Local and Sales Tax, I am paying nearly 37% in taxes. Many of the wealthy only pay on dividends, and sales taxes, and property tax, and if they off-shore those accounts, only sales tax, and property tax, which I know cannot even average to 37%. Fair Share.

The writer goes on to talk about 3 million jobs created. Amongst those are approximately 400 million added manufacturing, contracting, and defence jobs connected to his idiotic war in Iraq. Many of those dollars could have been spent wiser.

The writer continues to say that if the Media has not played their bash-Bush card for all of this time, we would all know he is great. I gave Pres. Bush
a chance right off a bat. Then I saw his war mongering, his deficit spending, his partisanship, his fear mongering, his work to destroy the value of the dollar, his ineffective strategy in Afghanistan, subverts the Constitution with his signing statements, and his war in Iraq. These are my issues with this President. Not even counting the fact that he takes about 6 weeks of vacation a year, talks and acts like someone with a mental disability, and behaves like someone in the position of the privileged, which are annoying, but do not rise to the level of making George Bush the Worst President Ever.

26. I watched it last night
and again this morning. Titles like treasoner, tratior, criminal - all too kind for Chimpy. I'd like to think he's going to hell for his deeds, but I have to think that Satan wouldn't let him in. Like Saddam H., the devil likes those that play along, but he'll draw the line with someone who's an equal.

30. Yup, Keith is the best, and Rachel Maddow devoted a lot of time to this on her Air America show,
then was a guest on KO. Between the two of them, the best commentary on the news today (or any day, LOL.). :patriot:

28. K&R. Best post today, IMHO. Keep laughing, buddy, all the way to The Hague...
Just when you thought that you'd heard it all. Rachel Maddow likened it to his "Nope, no WMD's over here..." performance.:grr:

Saw this on YouTube after hearing it on Air America and even MSNBC today, and knew that DU wouldn't have missed it. I'm passing it on, too, since everybody needs to see this. Thanks for posting it...:hi:
