I'm just pointing out that Obama didn't breing up '08 or harp on it, Russert did. Of course, there's several grains of salt to take with that:

1) as you said, he could have switched subjects

2) he probably knew more or less what would be asked in advance. Sunday political talk shows are more theater than news.

But nevertheless, I think there's a pretrty big gap between answering Russert's questions and being a demagogue worthy of being damned -- in all caps, no less -- on a site that advocates for Democratic candidates, not those other ones.

selfish reasons, you would less likely see self-aggrandizement than you see in Congress today.

Of course, it's getting to the point in our Republic where people enter Congress for corporate greed or personal gain or both more than for any other reason. When too many enter government for this reason, the Republic dies from rot, or it's overthrown by the people and replaced with a new government in its place.

It's a natural process like the life cycle of animals. They are born; they grow; they mature; they age and decay; and they die.
