5. I think the more accurate thing to say would be "Damn you, Russert"...
it was Tim that couldn't stop ask,ing questions about Obama's intentions for 2008.

12. How about Obama (or any other of our people) calling the
Pigman on his little dance.

"Mr. Russert, I agreed to be on this program in hopes of being able to discuss the critical issues facing the American people at this very moment : Iraq, the shredding of our Constitution, etc. Speculation about the 2008 election is not only premature, it is a waste of time, especially just weeks before the most important mid-term elections in this country's history."

15. Certainly an excelent point...
I'm just pointing out that Obama didn't breing up '08 or harp on it, Russert did. Of course, there's several grains of salt to take with that:

1) as you said, he could have switched subjects

2) he probably knew more or less what would be asked in advance. Sunday political talk shows are more theater than news.

But nevertheless, I think there's a pretrty big gap between answering Russert's questions and being a demagogue worthy of being damned -- in all caps, no less -- on a site that advocates for Democratic candidates, not those other ones.

6. I think you are wrong...
Who are the public faces of the Democratic party right now...Obama and Bill Clinton...they are everywhere, talking up the party and campaigning for our candidates!

And the Republicans...Mark Foley and Dennis Hastert...

We win!

8. Maybe if politicians ran for office for selfless reasons more than...
selfish reasons, you would less likely see self-aggrandizement than you see in Congress today.

Of course, it's getting to the point in our Republic where people enter Congress for corporate greed or personal gain or both more than for any other reason. When too many enter government for this reason, the Republic dies from rot, or it's overthrown by the people and replaced with a new government in its place.

It's a natural process like the life cycle of animals. They are born; they grow; they mature; they age and decay; and they die.

warranted a mention.

No, that would have been so 1789ish. Such talk would have been divisive.

We've moved on to a Brave New World.

11. Switch to decaf
He was asked a question while he was on to promote his book. He's on a book tour. You might have noticed that. He has also raised millions for other Dems. You might think about saving all that anger for the PEOPLE ON THE OTHER SIDE.

17. Why? Because he's one of the most progressive Senators we have.
With a 92% and an 8th place in his voting record on progressive issues, according to www.ProgressivePunch.com

18. We should be happy EVERY time ANY Democrat goes on TV and performs
well, no matter what the topic. Every time that happens, another Independent gives the Democratic party another look. Obama may very well have swayed votes toward other Dems in this election, just by showing up and being himself.

19. Wake me up if Obama actually accomplishes something
Yes, he's telegenic. Yes, he has interracial appeal. Yes, he's intelligent and articulate.

But what on earth has he actually DONE? As far as I'm concerned, I think he needs to buckle down and pay his political dues and produce some results before stepping into the presidential arena. He can't hold a candle to Gore or Feingold or Clark.

27. Some pundits have pointed out that never in history
has a senator made it to presidency. If he waits until 2012, he will have too long a record in the senate, and that will be used against him.

24. I know. Seriously.
Guys and gals, John Lennon/Paul Wellstone/St. Francis of Assissi isn't running for president. We're gonna hafta meet the rest of the country halfway somewhere - comprimise is essential to the democratic process. No man/woman who has a shot for running for president will EVER be ideologically pure enough for DU standards.

If Obama runs, I'm not only voting for him, but giving him money and volunteering for his campaign.

31. Good post.
Too many DUers would rather have us loose then nominate a canidate that doesn't pass 1000-page-long litmus test. I may not like Hillary because she is a DLC lackey I'd rather have her in charge then *. Some people here have to get thier heads out of thier idealisitic lala land and into the pragmatic realities of politics. Lets face it, the average DUers is farther to the left then the average Democrat, especially on social issues.

Oh, and the Obama bashing is moronic, he's one of the most progressive senators.
