Leaving aside the issue of whether the enactment of the detainee bill is itself a "war crime" that renders individual elected officials who voted for it "war criminals" as a matter of international law, you're never going to see chimpy or any other American officals on trial at the Hague. Neither the US nor Iraq have ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court or otherwise acceded to the court's jurisdiction as a matter of law. Clinton tried at least to sign the treaty, but it was never submitted for ratification and chimpy later rescinded the treaty signing.

I also like the juxtapositions in this photo, such as JC behind (and literally looking over the shoulder of) JJ, pretty clearly providing us with an image of JC keeping a close watch and wielding some authority even over prominent fellow-black politicians who might be more interested in their own power moves than in truly helping their own people -- or ALL of us, as JC does.

Then there's that caption on the screenshot, reminding everyone of the final act in the last pResidential faux-election ... and how that one state's vote-counting "irregularities" were all it took to perpetuate the reign of the malignant, naked chimperor who has so damaged our nation -- and US.

In general, just the overall impression this picture offers is powerful, IMO. Conyers looking out over all he can survey, eyes on targets and gavel in hand, ready to take action in ways that could be so much more effective and certainly broader than he can manage as things stand now.

It's an image we should think about long and hard as we all go to the polls for the '06 midterms. Why should we do that, even if JC isn't in our district?

Because IF our votes are counted fairly this time -- and I know that's a hope way more than it's a guarantee; IF JC accedes to the chairmanship of the House Judiciary Committee, then we could see things begin to change in a big way in many areas of our government, with this fair and courageous man heading such a powerful committee!

I know that's a lot of "IFs," but there's no way around the "iffiness" of the upcoming election, anyway. Why not bet on something we can have confidence in?

I have concluded that we must do everything we can to improve the chances of getting JC into a more powerful position.

Just think of how he could focus the attention of the entire nation where it ought to be by choosing subjects and targets of hearings and issuing subpoenas.

Think of all the things Conyers could begin to clear up and how many bits of nastiness, treason, and outright criminality of every sort that this administration has committed and which John Conyers might be able to help rectify....
