Looks like Congress has caved again
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 04:17 PM by Freedom_from_Chains
They are announcing on MSNBC that Congress has reached some kind of a deal with the W.H. to pass his bill to torture terror suspects. I haven't heard all of it but you might want to be paying attention tonight.

Coming up on Hardball

1. the committee in the Senate has, it hasn't gotten to the floor yet
has it? It also has to go the the floor of the house if I'm not mistaken. I don't understand why these people won't fight this insanity.

2. Saw This Coming TEN THOUSAND MILES AWAY.
Heck, the astronauts in the shuttle could have seen this one coming from outer space.

Now, everybody's happy. Well, not the Democrats of course, but who gives a shit about them?

REPUBS WIN!! REPUBS REACH CONSENSUS!! Everything's fine, and all is right in the world once again.

3. This congress is afraid it's going to be a lame duck anyway,
so they're trying to maxmize their damage to this country early.

Expect them to be particularly vicious after the elections, especially if the Dems take control. They know there won't be enough of a majority to override Stupid's vetos, so they're going to do their worst.

Social security destruction, here we come!

4. Saw it. Not one Democrat in sight.
Mfume's comments were lame, tame, and ignored the undeniable fact that this administration *has* tortured and that this new bill will likely allow it to go on.

7. Doesn't matter what they do....
It's unconstitutional to pass retroactive laws to make things legal.

This is just gonna come back to bite them in the ass.

Make sure to defeat everyone that voted for this crap.

13. GOP, WH Fashion "Framework of Agreement" over Torture
Update: GOP, WH Fashion "Framework of Agreement" over Torture
By Justin Rood - September 21, 2006, 5:25 PM
http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001585.php

The White House and GOP members of Congress say they've reached some level of compromise to break the deadlock over detainee treatment legislation. The deal, however, does not appear to solve a key disagreement over the use of classified information in terror prosecutions.

White House adviser Steven Hadley called the deal struck between the White House and three conservative GOP senators a "framework of agreement," while Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) called it a “conceptual agreement.” Nothing has been signed, however, and no specifics have been confirmed.

One official said that under the agreement, the administration agreed to drop language that would have stated an existing ban on cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment was enough to meet Geneva Convention obligations. Convention standards are much broader and include a prohibition on "outrages" against "personal dignity."
In turn, this official said, negotiators agreed to clarify what acts constitute a war crime. The official spoke on condition of anonymity, saying he had not been authorized to discuss the details.

16. How times have changed from when
Clinton couldn't even get a haircut without getting hassled by some oversight committee. Now the constitution can be re-written on a lazy afternoon and ignore the Geneva Conventions and nobody seems to give two shits.
