Lou Dobbs/CNN implied the Dems about just as guilty re Abramoff money
Well, I'm fairly disgusted.

I turned off "the news" about 2 years ago because I am so sick of the lies. However, tonight I was giving my wife some company while watching CNN. Lou Dobbs had a little segment on the Abramoff scandal and did a pretty good job of lumping all Abramoff money in with the "Indian" Tribe money so that the Repub tally is 2.5 mill and the Dems at a not so shabby 1.1 mill. The underlying point of the segment is that they are "both corrupt" - which is probably true. However, in this particular case, I think this is truly a Republican scandal. That's not to say that that our government is not for sale on both sides, because it is. However, I am firmly reminded why the vast majority of Americans are fairly well disinformed.

1. The research is out there and readily available, even to an elite. Which
makes Lou Dobbs a liar and a whore.

23. We can all write letters to him but really a Congressional Dem needs to
step up to the plate everytime these statements are broadcast unchallenged. Where is the rapid response team of Congressional Dems? Surely one could phone in a complaint to Lou and if one asked to appear on the show to refute charges how could he turn them down?

2. Tribe money wasn't dirty until Abramoff used it to bribe his pet Repubs.
And THAT is something media won't talk about.

17. Yes. He is failing to narrow to the bribe money, unfortunately.
I generally like Lou's coverage of the war on the middle class. But, why the fuck he fails to narrow the Abramoff bribery to the bribers and briberees is beyond me. Maybe, he's being mistaken in in his perception of "just" coverage, or something.

Hell if I know.

22. False balance. Completely manufactured. It's up to us to email the simple
statement above every time the lie is used.

Tribe money wasn't dirty UNTIL Abramoff used it to bribe his pet Republicans.

Simple - they have no answer back for it.

Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 06:37 PM by high density
Did it say "Courtesy Jack Abramoff" on the memo line of the check or something?

I don't think both sides are equally guilty at all in this situation, though the corporate media and right-wing talk is going overboard to frame it as a bipartisan scandal.

21. Thank you, I did. With this text:
I would have thought journalists had better fact checking skills and logical facilities than what I witnessed this evening. In the segment on the Abramoff scandal, Mr. Dobbs did an incredibly poor job of explaining the situation to his viewers. When he lumped tribal donations together with Abramoff client donations he did both Democrats and the American public a huge disservice. In fact, Democrats have received no donations connected to the Abramoff scandal. Direct donations from the tribes are completely legal. Is he aware that Native American tribes have traditionally donated more to Democrats than to Republicans? However, the tribal clients of Jack Abramoff reversed that trend during the time they were his clients. Jack Abramoff has publicly declared Democrats to be the enemy and plainly stated his intention to eradicate them completely from power. So why exactly would he give them any money? I suggest you check this graphic. It should help your staff unravel this complex issue. <URL to .jpg>

10. I'll say it again ...
Legal counsel for the Democratic Party should be issuing 'cease and desist' letters to EVERYONE who states this publicly. Either NAME the specific people you're alleging took money, or SHUT UP.

And of course, should you name specific names and be proven wrong, you've just bought yourself (and your newspaper, publisher, TV network) a big fat LIBEL suit.

15. He also thought there would be no wrongdoing found in Plame leak
He was very dismissive/critical of Fitzgerald's investigation complaining about it going on so long. Dobbs never would admit that the reason the investigation was taking so long was because of the lying and obstruction of justice by Libby and Rove and Judith Miller's stonewalling. Lou whined and moaned about poor Judith being in prison to protect her source. What a crock of B.S.

16. They're just reading the RNC talking points.
They've got a direct feed to the telepromters over at CNN.

(But not at Fox; no need for telepromters, no one there can read.)

18. It's clearly an edict from from upper management
ALL of the CNN anchors MUST lie about this issue. There's no other explanation for it. Time for the Dems to retaliate- and at the very least, file this away like Mme Defarge for the time when they can get some hardcore payback.

19. Proof there is either no independent press or an incredibly lazy press.
The information is hardly difficult to find. As far as I'm concerned, this now makes Lou Dobbs complicit in the scandal.

24. It's the working definition of "Fair and Balanced"
Edited on Fri Jan-20-06 10:26 PM by Zambero
If the media correctly addressed the Abramoff skullduggery as being a Republican scandal, it would be less newsworthy. It's a much bigger story to imply that both parties are complicit. In order to appear unbiased, they've extrapolated beyond reality to make it appear that Abramoff was an equal opportuity scoundrel. So much so that the bilking of Indian Tribes by Abramoff automatically makes any one of those Tribes an "Abramoff client", if the Tribe happened to make a cash contribution to any Democrat at any point. While Wolf Blitzer poured on the usual B.S., Howard Dean did an excellent job of refuting this nonsense on CNN several days ago. Unfortunately, Most Capitol Hill Democrats seem to belive that reason and truth will ultimately prevail, and are not actively challenging the falsehoods being put forth. After last years' Swift Boat liars and "Kerry outed Cheney's lesbian daughter" fiascos, you'd think they'd know better.
