Obama Debunking
So we don't have to keep reading the same emails and the same responses, over and over again.

1. Attack Email Debunk
Snopes Debunk:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp

Part of Email:

Probable U. S. presidential candidate, Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Barack Hussein Obama, Sr., a black Muslim from Nyangoma-Kogel, Kenya and Ann Dunham, a white atheist from Wichita, Kansas. Obama's parents met at the University of Hawaii.

When Obama was two years old, his parents divorced. His father returned to Kenya. His mother then married Lolo Soetoro, a radical Muslim from Indonesia. When Obama was 6 years old, the family relocated to Indonesia.
Obama attended a Muslim school in Jakarta. He also spent two years in a Catholic school.

Obama takes great care to conceal the fact that he is a Muslim. He is quick to point out that, "He was once a Muslim, but that he also attended Catholic school."

Obama's political handlers are attempting to make it appear that Obama's introduction to Islam came via his father, and that this influence was temporary at best. In reality, the senior Obama returned to Kenya soon after the divorce, and never again had any direct influence over his son's education. Lolo Soetoro, the second husband of Obama's mother, Ann Dunham, introduced his stepson to Islam. Osama was enrolled in a Wahabi school in Jakarta. Wahabism is the radical teaching that is followed by the Muslim terrorists who are now waging Jihad against the western world.

Since it is politically expedient to be a Christian when seeking major public office in the United States, Barack Hussein Obama has joined the United Church of Christ in an attempt to downplay his Muslim background.

3. Excellent... I really LIKE OBama..
I think he's great, and to me this is a good thing to get all of the rumors and misquote out of the way NOW. Hopefully we can keep these in some sort of an archive for future reference..

Thanks again, sandnsea for pointing out this forum exists!

5. Rezco Land Sale Debunk
SNIP

Last January, aiming to increase the size of his sideyard, Obama paid Rezko $104,500 for a strip of his land.

SNIP

"With respect to the purchase of my home, I am confident that everything was handled ethically and above board. But I regret that while I tried to pay close attention to the specific requirements of ethical conduct, I misgauged the appearance presented by my purchase of the additional land from Mr. Rezko," Obama said.

"It was simply not good enough that I paid above the appraised value for the strip of land that he sold me. It was a mistake to have been engaged with him at all in this or any other personal business dealing that would allow him, or anyone else, to believe that he had done me a favor," the senator said.

SNIP

A: I proposed to pay on the basis of proportionality. Since the strip composed one-sixth of the entire lot, I would pay one-sixth of the purchase price of the lot. I offered this to Mr. Rezko and he accepted it.

Even if you don't intend to vote for him!

If you have received the slandering email about Obama, send the following email (or your own version) back to the sender, and to any addy in the cc: or the text of the email:

You have sent me this email which is offends and frightens me, and which is simply wrong. It states - falsely - that Barack Obama is a radical Muslim who is a threat to America. These and other erroneous allegations were made by some cowardly and hateful scoundrel who has no understanding of, nor respect for, true Christian values or American ideals. If you go to www.snopes.com/politics/obama/muslim.asp you'll find all of them refuted.

I'm assuming you forwarded this nastiness on to me, and our friends and family, out of ignorance, not with any malevolent intent. I'm also assuming you will make it right by acknowledging your error and sending an apology to me and to everyone else to whom you have passed this poison.

A comment within that thread:

And another way of dealing with Aunt Phoebe (1+ / 0-)
(like the name, btw!), is to send her a reply e-mail alerting her to the possibility that some hacker or political thug must be using her e-mail address to spew hate and lies in her name.

For, surely, Aunt Phoebe, you can't believe something this preposterous and ignorant, can you?

That's the way I've dealt with a few of those ugly chain letters from time to time. Funny how, if you give the sender some wiggle room, they'll sometimes retract and (I hope) be more wary in passing on that kind of crap.

Another comment:

Even better, if you have the time and are annoyed (1+ / 0-)
enough, because reply all only sends to the addresses listed in the last header:

Go through the email chain and extract every single address listed;
Go to yahoo mail and set up a temporary account;
Blast the response back at not just the person from whom you received it (and their friends and family) but every single person in the chain.
Duck, cover, and never, never again open that temporary email account. : ) Hell hath no fury like a winger exposed to fact.

I've done this a couple of times for messages I've received through my wingnut brother.

16. EXCUSE ME... NOT EXACTLY TRUE - spam
Sister in law sent that one to my wife. :eyes:

The original lists "50" lies, but this one only had the first 28.

When my wife forwarded it to me for debunking, it acually landed in my spam box.

Anyway, I found this response:
http://docs.google.com/View?docid=ddzvw4c7_137cbhvxhcn

Not sure who created the response, but lists sources.
