Robert Rodrigues to give Predator a reboot.
Sometimes monster movie franchises go off the rails. It happened to Godzilla and it as happened to both Alien and Predator. Many fans weren't all to happy with the last two "Alien vs Predator" films. Believing that the two monsters deserved better films.

Well it seems that director Robert Rodriguez has heard the cries of monster movie fans around the globe and is going to 'reboot' the "Predator" films, starting with a remake of the original 1987 film that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Reportedly Rodriguez has already written the script for the film, which is tentatively titled, "Predators." The director is ready to begin production on the film once he is finished filming his current film, "Machete."

Presently very little is known about the film. It is also unknown if Schwarzenegger will be cast in the remake.

1. The Original Needs A Remake??
Now I haven't watched the original in a few years but it did seem to hold up quite well. Plus Jessie Ventura is too damn old to walk around the jungle with a mini-gun.

2. It's a good movie but formulaic.
It's basically the same idea of most slasher movies. Get a group of people and isolate them somewhere in the middle of nowhere and kill them in amusing fashion one by one until the end when the killer/creature decides to not be as careful and smart with the last dude as he was with the others and gets himself offed. :)

4. I wander how he will deal with it....
more Predator Homeworld info? More detail about what they are and their culture? I liked what little I saw of the Predator Home world in AvP:R and I think that was a good flick, I just like seeing those 2 beat on each other.

I like the AvP films, those two were meant for each other and it only makes sense that they came together on film, as they have in several comic series.

But they also need their own room to run, there is at least 3 movies worth left for the Alien series. I recently picked 3 Omnibus of Alien and AvP, I will get the Predator Omnibus 1 next, so far it is a good read but what I am looking forward to reading is ALIENS Earth War, which I ordered from Amazon recently.

There needs to be more back story on the Predator and I hope that is where Rodriguez is going with it.

5. Some more info.
Robert Rodriguez explains his vision for Predators

Robert Rodriguez, who is developing a reboot/re-imagined film called Predators for Fox, told Ain't It Cool News that the movie is a sequel set on a jungle-like Predator planet.

"With a nod toward Cameron's Aliens, I decided to call it Predators," Rodriguez told the site.

Rodriguez (Sin City) added: "Predator is a masterpiece of the action/science fiction genre. It's been borrowed from so much in other movies and even video games (that will now probably be turned into movies themselves) that I liked the idea that we could have Predators made relatively quickly. What I'd like to do with it is expand on ideas I dreamt up back in the original treatment, that had really expanded on the universe both the Predators and other species live in.

"We'd create new otherworldly characters while not taking away from the draw our main Predator has. I think another reason I called it Predators was to mark it as a project that should be taken seriously by a filmmaker to make a worthy follow-up to a classic, much in the way Cameron made Aliens a compelling work on its own, following Ridley Scott's Alien."

The writer/director added that his treatment envisioned an R-rated movie. Stay tuned.

7. Wow! Blasters in guitar cases! I'm there.
Let's hope halfway through the movie, after the Predator holds a family captive with smart dialogue they end up in a dive and it has to kill vampires, but not until Sigouney Weaver gets a machine gun attached to he severed thigh.;)
