Need ideas for a refugee lab from Afghanistan
Our rescue (based in the DC area) took in Tillah as she came in from Afghanistan - here is her story:

Tillah, a 4 year old 70 lb Lab mix , is a world traveler! Her owner adopted her while stationed in Kabul, and was devastated when she found that she could not keep her when she left.

She desperately emailed friends to find her beloved Tillah a home in the States, offering to have her transported across the world at her own expense, but had no takers. Heartbroken, she had made an appointment to have her humanely euthanized rather than leave her to an uncertain fate in a dangerous city when Homeward Trails heard of her plight - and we offered to foster her until we found a loving home.

Tillah arrived in the U.S. and was adjusting to a life where she can actually leave her backyard.
She loves going on walks and for rides in a car. However, she has not really spent much time with dogs other than her brother and had been displaying some aggressiveness. She is working with a trainer to address this, and we feel confident that she will learn to get along well with other dogs.

But her foster had to start traveling for her job. Because we are so short on fosters, due to helping with a situation where there are 225 animals in a rural farm needing rescue, we had to put Tillah in boarding, where she is suffering greatly, and we fear that we're losing months of progress.

We've put out the word on Craigslist, petfinder, and friends, but are still at a loss for a foster home for her. Does anyone here in this wonderful group have any ideas? We worked so hard to get her safe.

1. One more complication - she's afraid of men.
Which is why finding a foster is doubly difficult. She also barks loud and long when she hears other dogs, so an apartment is out of the question. The foster also needs to commit to the continued training program.

3. Also go to YahooGroups.com
Search for rescue groups in your area. I have found homes for cats that have been dumped on my doorstep through a few of the rescue groups listed there.

5. contact your local newspaper
find out who there does human interest stories and ask them if they know of anyplace/anyone that can help

as a side benefit this kind of story is one papers like to run - tugs at the heart strings, whoever you talk to may want to do a story on Tilah and include a plea for help in finding her a foster home

might even make it to your local 5-6pm tv newscast..
