Indra says Good Morning DU Pets Group AND she brings presents.
Edited on Fri Jun-30-06 06:25 AM by KyndCulture
I'm sitting here at 6am reading DU with my morning (much needed) cuppa joe with the front door open, enjoying the nice cool air... and Miss Indra comes bounding in and jumps in my lap with a freshly killed mole, summarily dropping it on my legs.... Here ya go mommy, look, I'm a good girl!!

I just thought I'd share my morning gift with all of you! I'm sure she meant for you all to be as happy as mommy with having a dead mole in your lap, still in your pajamas with only half a cup of caffeine in your system.

Don't we just love our kitty-kids?!

1. At least it was dead. My cats used to bring them into the house
crippled but still living. Noodle (RIP) once brought a kangaroo mouse into the bed one night and let it go. You should have seen all the hopping around in the bedroom that night! That Noodle was a sweet girl, though, and wanted her mommy to know how much she loved her.

Indra is a good girl, and so clever to go after those pesky moles that can destroy your lawn!

2. Yeah her last present for mommy....
was still half alive and twitching and she put it down on my sandaled foot.

Now if she decideds mommy needs a LIVE present in her bed, like Noodle gave you, we're going to have a serious talk about going outside.

3. I have only one phobia - dead animal, particularly birds
Love snakes, don't mind bugs and spiders, no fear of heights or small spaces, etc etc etc, but dead birds make me cry.

So every time my SO leaves me alone at night, the cat brings in dead birds. Or injured birds, which makes me even my upset.

One night, I couldn't use the bathroom until my SO came home because the cat brought in a cat-sized bird, and left it between me and the bathroom!

4. Oh dear.
My siamese had an affinity for birds and was the mightiest hunter I've ever owned....I went to visit my parents for a month in Florida and they are bird lovers, I neglected to mention Marshie's affinity for catching and eating them....I was sound asleep one morning when I hear my 70 yr old father screaming a string of expletives... I came downstairs to see WTF was going on... come to find out Marshie had been on one of her nocturnal hunting expeditions and left grandpa a half eaten present just under the lip of the back steps which he stepped on barefoot letting the dog out.

So he proceeded for the rest of my visit to try and get her to wear a collar with a bell on it which she promptly removed on any handy tree or fence post.

The murderer in question:

5. That is one beautiful cat
glad you found her a happy home with little disruption She has huge eyes like my little tabby/calico bird-killer.

Indra is now providing for you, since you helped take care of her when she was in her time of need.

We have a bell on ours, but once in a rare while she still gets a birdy - we've watched her stalk things, and she's learned how to stalk without the bell making any noise. Fortunately, the pounce part is still noisy, so groundhogs, squirrels and birds are usually safe if they're paying attention to the animal "grapevine" - I can usually tell where she is on the property by listening for the squirrels or birds sending up the alert.

We buy collars with bells & tags two at a time, because I've seen her working it off on a bush near our house (the first place we look when she "loses" it) She has a very mixed relationship with the collar - she knows she can't go outside unless she's wearing it and runs from wherever she is to get it on when she hears its bell, but she hates it anyway.

6. Belling a cat is humane to the wild life but..
getting them to keep it on is another story. Marshie wiggled out of it every time it was put on her...

She's in the happiest home, I hated leaving her but I had to, she has lots of sisters and brothers... 5 ferrets, a golden lab, a ginger half persian cat named appropriately Crookshanks and a black cat named Sin. She rules the new roost as the alpha animal..of course.

I'm glad her new mommy and daddy send pictures often.

8. At least it was dead
My parents cat, Ali, was very much in love with me (I was living with them).

She's likes the hunt, but not the kill. One night she had jumped into bed with me. I had woken up slightly, and I felt something a little cold near my neck. It was a SNAKE! And still alive!! It was a harmless little snake, that I then threw out in the back yard, but it was still alive. Freak me out. She did have a nice look of adoration on her face. :)

9. Ok...that would be it for me!
Not a snake fan. ICK!
I never let my cats outside but we do have the occasional mouse in the house. They were playing with a live one the other day. I didn't have time to try to trap it since I was going to be late for work. I came home to find 4 cats staring under the couch. I put them all in another room, moved the couch and opened the door. A tiny little field mouse - unharmed, as far as I could tell - ran out the door and probably couldn't believe his luck!
