2. I find it truly sickening that leaders of this sort of "religion" feel it is necessary
to scare the shit out of their youth in order to get them to follow them.

3. That's how they operate
Fear and domination (with a hefty dose of lies).

Amazing how similar they are to the Republicans, no?

4. The creepy thing about this whole hell business
is that you know that the christians listening to it think that somehow burning in fire for eternity is a fair price to pay for partying. Heck, shit like this probably makes them feel better about themselves. It's gross.

I only have one question. Where the fuck did he get the paper, and how did he mail it to his friend? Do they have mailboxes in the lake of fire?

Anyways...see you all in the lake of fire :hi:

8. And people really think they want to get into this "Saviors" Heaven?
Just because they weren't Christian enough and grovel at his feet, they are sent to Hell?

That's a kind and loving god alright.

To those that think this video is realistic, I say to you; "How bu$h like this video is."
It sounds like something they came up with from Git'mo.

Where is the message of Peace and Forgiveness written about in the first 4 books of the New Testament about this "Savior"?

9. He can't think? He can't talk? He can't feel? Then...........
how in the hell did her write a letter, narrate it and then feel the pain of fire? I am a Christian. This is using fear to convince people of what to believe. Theocratic fascism is something that needs to be exposed. This is an example. This is the same fear that is prevalent in our nations political mindset. Convincing with fear is called torture. It is subtle psychological torture but torture non the less. :dem:

11. Mind numbing tv shows and even the internet can be addictive to the
point of brain washing. People need to get away from technology sometimes to stay in touch with reality as opposed to what people try to convince you of what reality is. :dem:

12. It's that extra layer of cheez that I miss the most about being a Christian
Seriously. Slap some heavy riffs, cookie monster vocals, a barrage of blast beats, and a few choice chromatic leads on top of that little dirge and you got yourself some classic death metal song. Hell, it was all I could do to stop flashing the horns while watching that.

13. That is sick
The idea that God would condemn to hell anyone who doesn't believe in him is pure Calvinist hogwash.

It's like the abusive father in Oregon who beat his 8-year-old daughter to death for "being bad."

As one commentator noted, "What could an 8-year-old do that was THAT bad?"

What could one human being do to deserve eternal damnation? Yeah, I could see making Hitler or Stalin experience the deaths of everyone they killed or tortured, but even that would come to an end eventually.

Not coincidentally, fundies who are devotees of James Dobson are taught that children must obey their parents absolutely, even if the parent is abusive or tells them to do something morally wrong.

14. Hey, Lydia, you know who needs to hear that message from a liberal Christian?
Edited on Sat Oct-27-07 07:55 PM by Heaven and Earth
The commenters at this site: www.christianpost.com

I've tried telling them that, but they won't listen to me, because I'm a Humanist. Maybe they'll listen to you, and if not, it'll still be mind expanding for them. I'm encouraging all the liberal believers at DU to go to that site and give the regulars something new to think about.

It's a chance to stand up to your scarier brethren and...um...sistren? Yeah that seems right!:silly:

16. Well, I tried
I registered at the site, verified my e-mail and everything, wrote a response to the video in their jargon, but expressing my opinion that it's un-Biblical and sadistic, and when I hit "post comment," I got a screen that said "Please verify your e-mail."

I tried verifying my e-mail again, and went back to the video, and my carefully worded comment was gone. It took me 20 minutes to write, too. :-(

15. The guy's a joke
He has a site where he peddles his one-note Christianity. He plays the broad-minded tough guy, he knows the decrees he loves seem unfair ("don't get me wrong" is his signal he's about to do some commiserating, search for it in his posts), but the Word is the Word and if you can't man up and get to it, you don't have the Right Stuff.

He made a homey little video for an upcoming tour:
My uncle Jack retold the story in the sauna where he beat a guy for interupting his gospel presentation (Jack, a newly converted Christian at the time went "Old Testament" on this guy who was misinterpreting the New Testament…not recommended by the way.)

My uncle Dave showed us his many medals for heroism above and beyond the call of duty and several pieces of shrapnel that had been dug out of his body (one piece by him…ewwww!)

My uncle Bob retold the story of his spiritual wake up call in the back of a squad car after he thought he had beaten a guy to death in a bar room brawl. He shared what a horrible feeling it was thinking that he had actually killed someone. He then went on to talk about the change Jesus brought into his life after.

My uncle Tommy shared about how he and his wife had talked my mom out of aborting me when she confided to them that she was pregnant and thinking about having an abortion (Thanks Tommy and Carol for saving my life!)

My brother, wow, what can I say about him. He shared his passion for Jesus with words and tears that I can’t even begin to describe.

We are going to use this footage for promotional videos for next year’s Invincible Tour and maybe even the website, conference cutaways, etc.

However we use it, it will be a powerful reminder of the power of God for the salvation for everyone who believes…no matter what neighborhood they were raised in or what they can bench press.

http://www.gregstier.org/rants/a-flashback-on-steroids

I might say he was a twerp with masculinity issues and a penchant for high drama, but I wouldn't want to "get him wrong."

17. What world do these people think we live in?
Do they think there is anyone that has not been inundated with Jesus/God speak already?

And what sort of God creates a situation like this where someone who does not accept an unbelievable story gets sent to an eternal damnation.

Sick.... truly sick.

18. They're the spiritual descendants of the Puritans who taught
that one of the joys of heaven was watching the damned writhing in the flames of hell.

Yes, very sick.

I hate scare tactics.

19. The single best weapons are tolerance and compassion
Show people tolerance and compassion and shatter their notions of what people of other beliefs are like and you destroy their ability to distance themselves from you. This is the true nature of morality. Its not being taught to treat other people as you would wish to be treated. Its getting to know other people and internalizing them. Then it becomes natural to treat them as you would treat yourself as they are now part of you. This is how progress happens. This is how humanity works.

22. Artistically, the end bit was very well done.
It could be rewritten much better as an anti-apathy-to-suffering thing. Specifically,

"Don't bother me with the sounds I hear, the sounds of people shrieking. Although I wonder who they are who are these victims screaming?"

Yes, I tend to wonder how this stuff could be changed to affect the real world.
